Jkatfelix reacted to Apex Tint in Automotive Window Tinters...would you let this tint job out of your shop? *pics*
Hmmm if you look really close there are some inconsistencies on the edge that aren’t typical with a plotter. I’m guessing just a bad hand cut. But who knows. Anyways that’s besides the point. Just play it cool and ask the shop if they wouldn’t mind redoing the window. Sometimes tinters like to see what they can get away with.

Also, @CaliTINT could be correct on a plotter cut, I’ve run across some pretty bad patterns before.

Jkatfelix reacted to DynamicATL in Waiver
We do a blanket waiver for any damage on vehicles. Some people also do it for tint removals like the defrosters might come off. Now, will any of that hold up in court?

Jkatfelix reacted to CaliTINT in Tint Width
As a beginner I did 40" to cover all my bases (rears) which works fine and split it into 20" for most sides. As we have been able to increase our inventory I added 20" in the more popular shades to do most side windows.
Now we have been able to increase our inventory for almost everything:
40" and 36" to cover big rear windows
30" for most back windows
20" for sides and 24" for trucks and some back windows and I have some small rolls for strips 10" & 12" I believe in 2 shades only 5% & 20%

I could tint more cars if people didn't come in or call but then again I guess if people didn't come in or call I would have no cars to tint.

Lots of slip and use a super soft window squeege like the unger handle with the black rubber on it...then use your final pass tool....i worked at a shop that used that type of film for dealership cars

It depends so much on what type of vehicle, and if you work on those particular cars a lot. Right now I probably average like 3-5 full vehicle’s a day, but a lot of those are PITA! 5-6 years back I worked for a shop that did mostly trucks, and Chevy cars. My average per day was closer to 10, because they were easy and I worked on the same ones over and over.

We do a 10-5 shift...5 being the last appointment slot. We can fit in 5 full vehicles in that time frame...we are usually closer to 4 since we get a couple of windshields a day. Ideal time IMO is 2 hours or less per vehicle...so just depends on how many hours are in the shift.

Jkatfelix reacted to DynamicATL in To be 3M certified or not
I think you are getting way ahead of yourself...learn how to tint first getting atleast a few years under your belt. Taking a training class is only going to show you the basics on very easy vehicles, you will still be a complete novice not knowing what to do on a lot of vehicles. Being able to advertise your "Certified" isn't going to mean anything if you're producing trash work. There are tons of shops that throw the "Certified" word around and they have had zero formal training...it is just a empty gimmick. I can name atleast 5 tinters/shops in GA that claim to be certified with 10/20 years experience when their work shows maybe 6 months experience. Hell next week we are having to tint a C6 Corvette rear window because Tint World can't get it done after 3 attempts. Basically if your skills can't back up that certification, then it is 100% worthless.
As for 3M, you will need to check with the distributor offering the training as they might require you to be a dealer...I am honestly not sure. If they do require it, I highly doubt 3M would sign you on as a dealer without an already established shop. It is also going to be the worst film to train on since it is more difficult and more expensive. There are plenty of dealers that have been tinting for years that still can't install 3M's higher performing films. Also when trying different films, different techniques/tools are needed. So if you get "Certified" on one, you might have to completely switch it up on another brand.
