Thought about the same thing. More to kill time and stabilize money in the winter a little more.

At those margins though, you really question if it's worth it to keep up on all the shipping and eBay feedback.

Just putting this here in case someone finds this thread later.

I took LLumar's 4 day training class at their manufacturing facility in Virginia. I learned a lot of good habits and techniques.

The only down side with them is their minimum opening order and yearly order requirements.

I also start on the Drivers side. Don't want to hit the wrong switch when I'm finishing up.

When I have a helper I generally pull the vehicle in they soap up the back glass I cut it and start shrinking. As I'm doing that they pull seals and prep sides. I'll cut the passenger side and start installing those. Once I'm done with that back glass gets hung they prep and I install. Then work my way on to the driver's side. They install seals or panel on other side and begin touch up.

I have my pricing set up kind of like @DynamicATL has, most vehicles fall into a category and thats how they are priced.

I have run across a few exceptions. Usually I get my ass kicked (sometimes a little, other times a lot) the first time I do one and fix pricing from there.

    A couple examples;
The 2006-2012 Ford Fusion (and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ or Mercury Milan) I remove the quarter window in the rear door so I can easily tint the whole glass.
The 2011-2018 Volkswagen Jetta I remove the whole back shelf which is a little more involved than some others. (The first one of these I did the rear window four times with no success. Then I found this website and the fifth install came out nearly flawless.)

I charge $200 for coupes and sedans, those two I up charge $25 on a full install. I have done a few of each and not had any complaints.

We keep the same price for 99% of vehicles because I don't want to be seen as we gouging for certain vehicles.  Some customers will call and don't want to say the car because they think as soon as they say BMW/etc the price is going higher.  The only vehicles we charge more on are requiring atleast 30 minutes more work.  A few of them are the C4/5/6 Corvettes, 15+ VW GTI, Toyota Prius, BMW i3, Acura Integra Hatchbacks, 16+ Honda Civic Hatchbacks, along with anything requiring a door panel removal.  We also will charge more for any vehicle that is made in the 80's or older.  I look at it as yeah we lose a little time on this one, but we also gain it on others.  I will charge full pop for small vehicles like the Mazda Miata or Mini Cooper plus we have one set price for Trucks/SUV so even if it is a single cab, they pay the same as a quad cab.

No the ammonia doesn't bother the adhesive side only scratch coat side. I actually add a little more into it along with some super glue to help it stick better.

You wet shrink windshields and back glasses? I have done a wet check after dry shrinking but I am too nervous to apply a lot of heat to a windshield.

Do you mix a special bottle of slip just for windshield installs? I may try the Joy route or possibly get some Tint Slime. My issue yesterday was lack of movement to position the film once I had it 99% on the window.

I am already committed to doing the window over but what I don't want to do is waste any more ceramic film than I already have. I know I have to learn but damn does it hurt learning with the expensive stuff.

They aren't selling llumar film for that price.  Film alone for a full car is higher than $25.

Btw most newer factory glass is blocking a lot of uv and a good chunk of heat as well.

I currently have 35% over my factory windows on my 2006 GMC Sierra. They meter to either 7 or 8 on my Enforcer II.

My most common request when going over factory has been 15%. I have had a small handful ask for 5% over their factory tinted windows.

If you are just looking for a little extra and to still be a touch darker than the fronts you should be just fine adding the 30% over top.

If I remember correctly it was a $500 deductible with up to $500,000 max damages.

Stories like this make me happy I have a shop with no waiting area.

Drop off only. That said, I have had a few friends hang out.

Actually had one who tinted his own truck with a precut kit and wasn't happy with how it looked. Stripped it in my shop, very well I might add, and had me redo it.

@D34 you are a fickle person and you need to find your balls, you are overthinking the crap out of everything. I would hate to have you work for me. You need to not fear what you can't do and focus on what you can do and expand on it. You will never be anything with that wishy washy "i don't know what to do" bs. Find your sack, do your work, don't make so many excuses not to work and you might actually make some cash. That dude gave you a great opportunity and you quit after a week. You had a great opportunity to grow on someone else's dime. You need to be more sure of yourself and drop this lingering doubt bs that runs through every sentence of your post. My advice is, get into work, tint every car thrown at you, it may take you a long stretch to do it, you may get pissed and have to redo it, but you'll be no different than any other tinter who messes up and has to figure it out and learn something new. Are you waiting to tint every single car a dozen times before you feel good about yourself? But hey the choice is yours, McDonalds is hiring until you can figure out that you have to actually make an attempt at something to succeed.
Go back to that job, take on every car and take the time to do it right and you'll never regret me calling you out on your wishy washy attitude. Good luck, i truly hope you succeed.
