Hou don't have to rush or work fast to be a good tinter either. Just because this guy wants to have you tinting in his detail shop doesn't mean you have to be able to tint 10 cars a day on your own.

Set realistic expectations for yourself and consequently for him. If it takes you 5 hours to do a car, thats what it takes.

You will get faster and more confident, if you want to.

    That is good advice @Whyme!

I was interested in it and decided to take a class with LLumar. I watched every YouTube video I could before hand and decided that it was something I at least wanted to try and see if I could do to possibly make at least some side income if not a career out of. I never touched a knife or a piece of tint before class because my mindset was that I wanted to learn the correct way before developing any bad habits. Plus, I didn't want to screw up my vehicle (or anyone else's) with my personal learning process.

It sounds like you have skills already if you have been doing it as side/friend work for 5 years, maybe all you need it a little reassurance to realize that. A class could help your confidence and maybe also help you decide if this is a part time thing or a potential career for you to continue doing.

Either way, you'll make the decision that is right for you. Good luck in finding which answer fits you best!

You had bad and good in one shot. Bad for the disaster, good for the palace you rebuilt for yourself.

A tornado wouldn't do me any good right now, I'm only renting. Might cool the place down some though.....

I had surprisingly the SAME day!

'17 Ford Explorer K9 car. Air 90 on the windshield and front doors and CTX 05 in the back over the factory tint. Had to take all the cage stuff off the back doors and work around the storage boxes in the very back. Pain in the butt!

Not sure if I'm allowed to post pictures though...

@no ma'am Honestly thought about that. Popping the garage door open a little bit and making a filler of sorts with an old 110 volt window AC or two. Just wasn't sure about possible dirt blowing in the top of the door.

@quality tintz Looked at a Honeywell Evaporative Cooler on Amazon yesterday but it has a little map and doesn't recommend use in Ohio.

On stuff like that,  I’ll just set up a regular finger like your wet shrinking. Right in the middle of that bottom edge. ( on the peel board) pocket shrink it and start laying.

I bottom load and plotter cut with Precision Cut. I always use the long patterns just to be safe.

Add a little heat if needed, double snap and install with no bottom sweep to fight you.

The thing I need to learn is how to do a double snap on my peel board so I don't have to use the car. Most of them don't need anything but the double snap helps a touch.

I didn't have the depth in my home garage so I rented a storage condo that I tint in. It's 45 deep and 20 wide with a 15 wide 14 tall door and 16 foot ceilings, plenty of room for even the biggest trucks. An added cost but keeps people out of my personal world.

I tell everyone right up front that I have no waiting area so it is drop off only. I have offered rides to a few friends and I will allow for overnight if they ask. For a four door car I tell people six hours with the justification that we have a cleaning and curing process. Also, if I tell them less and it takes me longer they wouldn't be happy. No issues to this day.

I have let a couple friends hang out but usually I put them to work pulling door panels or cleaning up before I get to the next window.

i tint out of a 24x30 shop building at my house.  i send out reminders to my customers of their appt and ask them to drop their vehicle off and have someone to pick them up as it may take 3-4 hours.  i am a one man show and i dont get in no hurry.  im very picky about quality and if i dont like it, i will rip it off and start over.  customers watching is most annoying.  they want to watch every move then question why you ae doing it like that.  im not there to give them free tint lessons.  i got a few friends i will let hang while i tint but joe public can call a ride.  i dont have a waiting room.

As far as pricing, I would charge more or the same.  I used to consider that my overhead was low, but the fact is that the iobs are harder and more hassle doing it mobile. Also, once I noticed several shops that do mobile were charging an extra $50+. Again, make them pay for the convenience.

As far as custys watching...most annoying thing! I usually just clean to bore them.  If somone asks me shiat while im hanging film I ignore them.  Sometimes i feel like its not nice, but im not there to talk or put on a show...just to get a quality install.

its not that extreme.  im probably 1 inch below the seal.  but you know what?  i never had a single person came back and said their tint is peeling from the bottom since i started removing sweeps and bottom loading.

I use Sprayway for everything general window cleaning that isn't prep or install. I use Dirt Off and Film On for my prep and slip solutions.

Outside for a quick wipe before starting install, Sprayway.

Inside for a nice wipe after install and before delivery, Sprayway.

This should be something you make customers watch when they say they want 5% up front and 20% on their windshield.

I did a Fusion for a guy and he flat out told me "I like to tip a few back so I don't want a reason to get pulled over." Works for me pal!

Might be tough to get direction on this one here.

Most of us are film guys in some shape or form. (Auto or Flat Glass Tint and/or PPF)

Don't know how many detailers are around these parts.

Good luck though! Honestly hope to see an answer from a trusted name here.
