Am I the bad guy?

Recommended Posts

Well, got a call from a buddy that has one of his buddy's wanting a camper tinted. My buddy also volunteered to help me tint it. Which is fine and all cause he does do good work and we tend to get along great and have no problems. We went to check the camper out a few weeks ago, and for some reason my buddy made the decision to tell a price. The price he gave out I don't even give to my family members, we all know our cost in materials so we can vary the prices but this was so under priced materials won't even be covered. I tried to explain that to both of them. But now I'm the one that's crazy for giving a more realistic price out, I didn't price it high nor did I go low, just a happy medium to where I could make what I needed to and still give my buddy some for helping me out. Needless to say I'm not even interested in doing the job now ???????? but like I said, I'm the bad guy right!?!?!?

Not trying to blame you. But you should have talked to your friend about the pricing, before going to the camper. Also, if he is willing to give such a low pricing, I would expect him to be doing it for free. Honestly, you can't blame anyone cept yourself. If I was you, I would charge for the material and just eat the labor loss. Just make sure you let him know, every minute, that its free while you are working with him. Lol

At first when he called he wanted to know a price right off the bat, an I know from past experiences that's not a good idea haha that's bit me hard before !! I said we'd go check it out and somewhere through there he decided he knew the price. If I do end up eating the labor cost I'm reminding him on every Window he's doing a great free job, an ill thank him for the beer to!! ! Hahaha

It sucks cuz I been there before. But a customers bad review is not worth any money. Just gotta learn from all the mistakes you make. Even if it isn't your mistake, there is always a way to prevent it. I'm wierd, I blame everything that goes wrong on myself.

Simple, you didn't give the end user a price...your friend did.  I would collect the amount from the guy and have your friend to pay the difference since he opened his mouth.  Why lose out when the end user isn't even your friend.  It is not like it is something super important that would really help him out...it is tint.  I had it happen once with one of our shop associates (doesn't work with us, but we are cool with him).  He quoted someone a stupid price and I told the customer I hope the guy can tint because that is the price he told you...not our price.

Those are all god ideas!!! Hahaha

I forgot to mention it has old purple, bubbly, fingerd up tint on it right now, so it's also a strip and tint. The guy who trained me many moons ago has been tinting anything and everything for the last 32 years, he mentioned to me to just back all the way out cause the Windows will be almost impossible to clean and not scratch them? Anyone have an idea on that? They are just a single piece of glass in a metal frame, I've seen and done my share of Windows in the last 12 years but maybe he knows another secret he hasn't fully shared? Any truth to scratching the glass with a razor?
