In the future record your interactions at your front counter, release video of them being a jackwagon.

Since its too late for that send a cease and desist with notice of intent to file suit if he does not publicly retract. No refunds, pound sand.

Just out of curiosity what color was his truck. From my experience 50+ driving a red half ton with chrome base model drivers are consistent d-bags along with the bmw crowd.

I'd be searching the Net for a supply to complete this. It's really best to let the film set up a couple weeks before installing a sealant product.

It could be trimmed by hand to the edge of the stripe but there is risk involved in that. Beyond that I don't think you have a lot of options, unfortunately those factory stripes are inconsistent in their placement so getting that precut piece to line up with them 100% perfectly 100% of the time isn't always possible. Your options as I see it are to live with it; have it trimmed by hand; or have the film and stripes removed, the film reapplied and then new stripes applied over the film.

The precuts are just that. The software allows you to + - the pattern but it's really up to the installer to take the extra mile and fudge with it...a shop I know is one their 36th *revision* of their pattern tweaking for the Z06.

U don't want seams on a install - preferably- especially the hood since it's the main focal point.
If I was choosing it, I would do the full gloss film on the hood and then vinyl match ontop of the ppf where the factory stripes are - new vinyl strips would be 1/16+ wider than the stock strip so you know you are fully covering it

. The vinyl is like 5 times thinner than stealth PPF, so it would blend in better than the thicker stealth clear ontop, as well as it would mask it so it looks -seamless- due color coverage..

I’m perfect, never stuck a spec of dust in a window in my life . If that were true, I still wouldn’t touch your car with a 10ft pole. Too many red flags already, and  .

Biggest thing you need to learn is what type of glass is commonly used in homes and offices in your area. That way you will know what films are safe to use on what windows. It's a whole other ballgame compared to auto glass.

Last thing you want is to use the wrong film and have the glass pop.

Absolutely partials are still done and carry a decent amount of market share. Like @Dano said your average commuter in a Honda, Hyundai, Chevy, etc. will shit themselves at a full front quote. There are always exceptions of course but the full front/full wrap market really doesn't seem to come into play until you move into the higher end market or enthusiast vehicles. That said it is a large market and what you're going to see advertised/featured on social media.

Of the software I've used Xpel has been the best.

I do plenty of those on pick ups, also in vinyl.

Also I'm in the western US where basic kits are a big volume of the market because of the terrain. This whole area basically made of stone.
In other areas it's more of "I'm special and have to have the best of everything" even if its not necessary. There's always a market within a market. Everyone finds where they want to specialize.

I like the higher level jobs, but they come with a risk and can also bog down your schedule. Monetary rewards are about the same at the end of the day as compared to running out volume, but I like to push my myself and my craft. Sometimes the peace and quiet of a 20hour install is nice also.

The market is strong for both segments. The average office commuter in a new honda isn't looking for a full front clip and the Porche guys want only that. I do plenty of full size pick ups that only get an 18" with headlights and maybe a bumper if it's painted.

Some dealerships will pre load all their entire inventory with hood/fender/cups/edges and not do the bumpers at all. If they sell 50cars a month and you install the kits @ $200 to 250 each, you're making good money with minimal risk.

Anyone fresh into PPF can make a good market just focusing on the basics until they work up to the full front ends. I would never let a first year installer get near a full bumper with a knife. Even with a plotter you're going to have to make a cut somewhere and a simple mistake on the wrong Porche, Tesla, etc, could cost thou$ands, easily. No need for a noob to take that kind of risk.

Please read the 'Flight of Icarus' and build up a good skill set before flying right into the sun. There's plenty of market to be made without flying so high. You may not get the reward you're looking for or even worse, your client might post a 'wtf does this look right' thread here on TintDude just before he sues the fuk out of you/your insurance.

    Start slow peeps.

That would be a decent first machine but you really don't need it aside from cutting trim pieces/door cups. If you're new and mobile, I would stay away from full bumpers.

Learn to do bulk installs and hand cutting first and the plotter will be a good assistant.

12" or 18" hood, fender, headlights, mirrors, cups/edges, A-pillars and luggage strips are the easiest installs to do mobile with the least amount of risk.

alberts316 reacted to Dano in Bad ppf and tint job? Help!
Looks like an alcohol burn in the glue. That can happen when lifting the film too many times or not getting good adhesion and trying to reset the position.

This whole job is one more example of why not to trust a plotter cut pattern unless you're running multiples and can adjust in the software after a few screw ups.

The installer may have been a nice guy on day one, now you'll get to test his integrity.

It's a shame that techs aren't trained in hand cut and bulk installs like they used to be. Now any live body with a plotter can be a "pro".

Turbo S- ceramic and a bookoo of clear mask from last week.

Anybody not covering up the stitching on the door pannels at a minimum is a dang fool. Also the rear deck pops away from the body with a little firm love. The rest around it started sounding expensive when I gave it a tug.

14' 911 non turbo on deck for tomorrow.

I have to agree with @Tintguy1980. You could also get three reasonable bodyshop estimates and ask the owner for the value of the average plus the install in a cashiers check in exchange for a hold harmless agreement. Basically go away and shut up money. If he's smart he'll give it to you. It doesn't matter if you actually fix it or not, he needs to make you whole for the value that you are deficient after his work was performed. You also do not have to use "his guy" for any of the repairs.

I wouldn't blame that on not using a plotter. A good freehand installer may never touch a blade on open glass, but instead use a grease pencil to template a pattern, often better than what comes off the machine. Cookie cutter isn't always great. I do both regularly.

What we're looking at here is just plain poor attention to detail. I hate it for what it does to the industry.

Jackwagons like that have been effing up the industry since it began. I'll wager anything that they absolutely saw it and delivered it with a straight face. Hood rat mentality. It's one thing to damage someone's auto, but not acceptable to try to pull that crap and believe it's ok.
