Well @TNTLady, I can tell you that if that is their perception then it is absolutely their loss..It is true that I have very rarely come across a female window film installer, but those that I have had the pleasure of working with have always and I mean always taught me an incredibly important technique I have incorporated into who I am as a window film installer today.

A soak shield rope has become my new favorite. Prep is most important. After you clean run your hand over the entire windshield while wet looking for sticker, tape, glue, spray whatever remains on the window. Remove the mirror if you can and any other obstacle..A pillars are sometimes a must like on Audi A4. All this has been said before..just practice and take your time and it will work out for you.

The reselling of Llumar film to third parties is an absolute crime according to the manufacturer. If it has llumar logo on release liner then it is legit. I would steer clear of those folks and transactions as you have no warranty and it could limit your options in the future.

Express window films is a sponsor in the banner at the top of this page. @whitehog is a member who deals with Solar fx among other brands and can help you as well. Those should be great places to start. Good luck.

It would seem to me that this whole argument goes along with many others which are based on the concept of only a consideration for one's self and not their fellow neighbors. When I have a customer request a dark windshield I always respond that I cannot do it as it is dangerous and while they are more than willing to accept that consequence and surely more capable and cool than I,  it might be somebody else they hurt...such as my child or wife. In the old days we only really had 35% readily available to tint one with....nowadays with all of the selections and material constructions up to 90% that is no longer the case. The best "control" for these sort of issues is responsible installation. If a consumer can't get it installed, then they are ultimately forced to conform to our advice and guidance as it should be. Sometimes we have to save folks from themselves. The folks that embrace this ridiculous concept of having no discernible view into their vehicles will be left with no options if we simply refuse the install. We all know that it is sometimes imperative that drivers can see others in their cars to know if they are looking, waiting, about to turn, etc... While I will sometimes tint a windshield as dark as 35%, a bit of salesmanship almost guarantees that never happens when the customer sees the benefits of a lighter, but more expensive material. Just my humble opinion.

I use a snap on radiator clamp tool....a big version of a hook tool and also use a yellow pry tool from Harbor freight. Stick the pry tool between the door panel and the gasket. Pull up on the pry tool and you will see the black clip snapped into the hole on the door panel. I stick the point of the pry tool right next to the clip partially in the hole and wiggle the clip...It will pop due to the pressure and come apart no problem. After you practice on a few they pop right apart. Pull gasket out and tint with ease!

Depends on whether or not you are going to use a vehicle mounted generator or a portable one. Also depends on what you will run off it and if you need electronic grade electricity or not.  If you are running heat gun or heavy amp stuff you will need big one. You need to figure all the things you might run (amperage) and then add 10-15% and that is what you need to look for in a generator. I would also advise quietest possible. Some areas I work in will not allow me to run genset so I am forced to run off of lithium ion batteries.

The whole surprise that we have to get into the car to tint it is always nice...another funny one is every time it rains I have folks assume we cannot tint their cars...."Oh I was really wanting to get this done today, but it had to rain......"

The proper term for what you are describing is called pocket shrinking. In the old days we wet shrank like we dry shrink now starting at the point of the finger and working towards edge of film. Pocket shrinking helps control the finger by starting at the bottom first and you shrink it quicker with better results.

Lol! This doesn’t help your argument. Your highlighted text contains the word “exemption” which means that something ILLEGAL is allowed for a very small segment of the population based on medical issues. Exempt and legal are two different concepts. So what your initial comment should have been is my windshield is darker than legal in the state of Florida because I somehow got an exemption instead of it is legal to have blah blah because I am awesome.

One option that might help you in the top corners.......only trim off the film that will not fit on the outside of the windshield before you start your shrink. Regardless of what you use to shrink with...fabric softener or soap...one thing you can do is pull slightly upwards on that part of the film until you move or reshape the finger...don't pull hard...just reasonable pressure while heating. When you get to that area that wants to crease....apply a bit of heat towards the base of the finger yet above where you would have to cut it out or the plotter already cut it. Then go back to the area and it should shrink for you.
Another trick is to get your film locked down and set up to shrink and then take the heat gun and heat at the very bottom and top of the film back and forth in wide motions till the bottom edge of the film starts to cup just a bit towards the glass then shrink as normal...Hope this helps.

I want to thank all of you good folks in this forum for the tips and suggestions...I had my first one of these to do today. I was ready and willing to completely disassemble the rear of the car to make this one a success. A good friend of mine sent me a 17 minute long video of the disassembly process...I watched it and then another video comes up with a guy from Detroit who mentions he is going to give it a try without disassembly. His cutting software suggests that he plot the window, place it on the car and shrink everything from the wiper and above at the top of the window, then slide it up and shrink the bottom. Place it on the inside and you are good to go...well the first attempt didn't work well for him so he tried again this time not peeling the film and shrinking the bottom on the inside of the window first...Here is the link to that video:

I tried this method and worked like a charm the first time...no waste, no disassembly, no headaches. Done in about 30 min. Some of you here mentioned the same approach or some form of it...I am grateful for your help as always.
