CaliTINT reacted to pbalentine in Not tucking film anymore
Im getting to the point where I rarely tuck. I’ll pull the seal and/or panel if the sides stick out, bottom seal is tight, and if its a removal or the felt is deteriorating. I also do it for ease if I can do it fast. Most all vehicles now fall in these categories, so Im to the point of just never tucking. The few times i do now it just irritates me, especially since I dont do it as much and lose my edge doing it.

This is a 2019 Tesla Model 3.  I was not aggressive with heat did not even squeegee to hard. The film had even been on the car for over 30 min before that crack appeared.  As I finished hanging all the film I came back with a microfiber to clean everything up and literally watched it appear from the inside. The contractor I was doing this for just about had a heart attack when I had to call and tell him what had happened ( understandably so ). Lucky for us all the customer was about the coolest guy you could ever meet. Long story short everything worked out ok in the end. The customer is cool contractor is cool and I live to tint another day.

I don't respond to post like this normally, but I am seeing it all to often. I understand your not trying to, but this is a slap in the face to many here. You say your extremely determined to start a business? Just any business, or a tinting business? But your not willing to sacrifice and do what it takes to do it right. This is a major issue in our industry. I'm all for new up and coming people, but it needs to be viewed more seriously. Although I was young when I started, I was married, and took quite a big pay cut to go apprentice in a shop and learn the TRADE. In the beginning of our business we struggled for a good amount of years. We invested 10's of thousands of dollars upfront. Even 18 years later it it can be hard at times. So if you really want to enter the window film industry, put in the time and sacrifice to do it right. It's a trade just like any other. The only difference is it has no regulation for entrance. If you just want any business and tint looks like a easy one to jump into, you will be in for a rude awakening. I know some will not like this post, and say "don't worry people will just come to you for the redo's" but I don't believe that's the case. It is a thorn in the side of the window film industry.(automotive mostly).I'm not trying to be rude. I hope you do start in the tint life ,correctly, and thrive in it.

CaliTINT reacted to Blackwolftinting in 2018 GTi quarter
My first go at one. The back window seems a lot less curved, so that’s good. But the front quarter window...lol. I swear there’s a VW engineer that used to be a tinter, and he just loves making our lives harder. Anywho, I got them installed using a gold EZ reach and a toothbrush. The ez reach got what I could get, and the toothbrush got the rest. I’m sure if it was a toothbrush with an angled head it would have made it easier. Soft bristles and used just like a squeegee.

CaliTINT reacted to DynamicATL in How do you guys do it?
Most of our customers purchase Ceramic or Crystalline, so tinting the windshield comes up often when they are looking for heat rejection.  I would say 60% of the time they ask for it, 40% of the time we promote it.  We let them know if they are looking to block heat, then they should think about tinting the windshield because it is the biggest window in their vehicle.  We let them know we have 50% if they are looking to add a little shade to it or up to 80%/90% if they would like to keep it clear.  We then let them know that technically it is illegal to tint the windshield which is why we carry such light shades to ensure it won't be noticed.  Our goal has always been to be honest, explain the pros/cons including it being illegal and let the customer decide for themselves.

Wow. I make it a point never to place anything (tools, boxes, etc.) on the paint except towels. I see guys place their spray bottles on top of cars paint all the time and it makes me cringe.

I guess thats why the yellow is the most popular. I want to get the pink clean in the hamd holder again.  I tossed it and tried to break it months back, but recently tried it again and like it.  Going to use that for 1/4s and ones that are real small Im not squeegeeing; just wipe and flush.

Durability is weaker in the regions shaded yellow, orange & red.
Technically, the same Windshield Protection Film can last longer in Northern Europe, Japan, US and Canada.
    Science doesn't lie.

This car took us about 4 hours to tint.  We had to remove the rear deck on this 2019 which we never had to do on any Charger. The back glass gave us so much problems even after wet sanding it with 2000 grit.  It just didn’t wanna stick on the bottom. Even after removing the rear deck we still had a hard time due to the sub woofer sticking up so high.  There also alots of electronic that need to be cover up back there so be careful.
