Who makes decent chrome vinyl? 1 2
by Guest uogecko- 12 replies
- 2.6k views
I'm a big fan of 3M 7725 premium plotter vinyl but they don't seem to make chrome. Any suggestions? I have a roll of 24" non-punched (that's what we want) chrome vinyl but it really sucks - super tough to weed. Our 3M colors at 24" wide usually cost between $5 and $8 when we order it by the yard. A comparable chrome vinyl would be stunner! Thanks, G

Corel Draw 12 vs LXi
by Guest EddieK- 2 replies
- 1.4k views
Another noobie question... I have LXi signmaking software, which im not really too good at using (but im learning!). As im doing some research about vinyl graphics, I keep seeing Corel Draw come up. Is this software the best out there? Should I spend the $179.99 to buy it and ditch the LXi....or just tough it out with what I have now?

those of you w/ professional graphic programs
by Guest keepitcool- 9 replies

how long on average does it take you from drawing a picture on paper to scanning it in vectorizing it, cleaning up all the jagged and edges and getting it completely laid out and vectorized to sending it to the plotter for cutting? I dont know about you guys but it takes me hours to do and I dont have that kind of time to be spending in front of a computer everytime I get som eone in the shop that wants a grphic different from what I have in my program that I have to hand draw.do you guys sit there for hours cleaning up edges so you can send it to the plotter and get clean cuts or am I missing out on something?? any advice is appreciated

Does anyone use a lynx or panther?
by Guest cooltint- 4 replies
- 1.7k views
I am wanting to buy a plotter and I am having trouble deciding on which one and what size to get? I thought I had it narrowed down to the 24" lynx or 24" Bobcat. I called signwarehouse.com to answer some of my questions. The sales rep told me that neither one of these would work for tint. Is this true or is he trying to do the up-sell trick on me? He suggusted that the plotter I needed was either the Panther 24" or 40". He said the pinch rollers were better for tint with the panther because they are machined and not cast like the Lynx. Any truth to this? Help, I can't decide which one to get and this is a big purchase. Also, 24" or 40"? Does anyone use the cump…

Hey guys, I'm new to doing vinyl, just got a cutter, but have a question: When you make multicolor vinyl images, whether text or graphics, do you overlay the colors before applying to the substrate, or do you assemble the layers on the substrate itself? Also, I am wondering what the trick is to lining up the registration marks; How do you see them through all the layers? Thanks for the suggestions.

UV activated graphics
by Guest KiwiTint- 8 replies
- 1.4k views
I saw a UV activated graphic on the net the other day and was wondering what type of tint was used. I assume it has to be white in order to be illuminated by the UV light, or does it? Also, if it was white, does the fact that it is installed under a layer of dark tint not affect the UV activation? or is it cut into it so it is exposed to the UV. OR, (I know enough already) is it on the back of the dark tint and illuminates through to the outside? Cheers for any comments.

Computer cut window tint
by Guest TBRacingmike- 2 replies
- 1.6k views
So obviously I'm new to this forum... and I was just wondering which program everyone thinks is better for cutting window film... and what the costs were for each one.. I have been cutting vinyl now for about 8 years, and currently own a roland cx-500 with flexi 7 pro.. I was wondering if either of these company's are cheaper given that all I need are the eps files of the out lines and none of thier "extra" crap.. Any other tips about the whole window tinting exp. would be appreciated.. from whatI remember.... I always hated tinting back windows.... other than that it was cake.. Oh... 1 last question...how comprehensive are their libraries??? almost…

Does anyone know how to shorten the pre feed prior to starting the cutting of a graphic on vinyl. It spool off several feet and then repositions back to the starting point to start the cut. The problem is that I cannot use short strips of vinyl or tint because it stops if the material is too short. The pre roll is about 3 to 4 feet. I would like to adjust this if possible to a shorter distance so that I will not waste so much material. thanks, fred

I've heard so much about the CAD tint cutters. They are very expensive and there are alot of them on the market. Are they worth the money? What kind is best? Does anyone do graphics and advertising using tint and a cutter? Would appreciate any information on these machines or expanding into this portion of the tint business.
