I never expect tips for tint jobs but love it when I get them.

One thing I learned was to ask the customer to check the car out first before they pay up. This increases your chances for a tip lol.

But love getting money, beer or food

CaliTINT reacted to Super Dave in New Soak Shield
So a fellow tinter recommended this new thing called soak shield B/C I do a lot of windshields on high end cars. I got online and checked it out! It's basically high absorbing microfiber towels that have been made into different sized ropes.   You stuff them down the gap between the dash and glass to get all the water that you can't get to because it would be in the way of you laying the film
looks awesome- mine should be in tomorrow, I'll let u guys know the results of using soak shield as soon as I try it!

You don't have to have a plotter to not cut on glass, you've just gotta improvise. Use a Sharpie,  button, or plastic banding strap. If you don't have a glass wall to cut on get a white board or plexi glass. The blades now are made to cheap and glass is to soft to cut on.

I want to take the time to say thank you to the tint dude community. I log on every now and then, but don't say much. I tint every now and then, now it's just for fun. Tinting has gotten me out of that job I hated, thank god I got away. Once again thank you guys for you help and the bashing, cause it definitely motivated me.

Did a 2012 Toyota 4Runner and bottom fed the rear glass that goes up/down.  I had the rear hatch in the upright position and just layed it in with no fuss, letting gravity help guide it. . Easiest rear roll down install by far for me.  Wish there were more hatch rear sliders out there.

CaliTINT reacted to DynamicATL in Don't you hate when people remove their own tint!
Whenever a customer states they remove the film, we remind them that film is only part of the removal and that the glue has to be removed too.  If not, there will be a charge which can be the same amount or even higher than our normal removal charge.  Had a customer last week removing tint from only the rear window because he didn't want to pay the $150 we charge.  So he did it himself, shredded the film everywhere requiring a full scrape.  Explained it to him that he actually made the job much worse and we would now $250 to remove it, but recommended him just to buy a new rear glass since it will come out cleaner.

They leave tint all in the dot matrix and the cracks of the cars takes forever to get out! Back Windows suck to get out old tint had to do it with a olfa knife sideways! And sometimes they don't tell you  it was tinted before on the phone  sneaky suckers!

Too be honest I think I just got a bit frustrated when I got the tint slime. Was trying to figure our a slip ratio that worked for me and when my initial tint slime ratio wasn't good enough I just ended up adding a few drops of J&J and bam! worked good so been doing it that way ever since.

I feel like when I was using J&J I would come across times where I put too much in my bottles and my film would slip way to much. With tint slime I wasn't getting enough slip. I'm sure I could eventually find a good slip on its own. But now that I use mostly Tint Slime with a bit of J&J I hardly ever have issues positioning my film anymore.

But my next mission will be to see if I can use TS on it's own. I'll let you know what happens but definitely give it a try. I highly recommend it.

We switched to Global QDP as well but didn't find a need to adjust on the slip. My solution consists of mostly Tint Slime (I put a cap full per bottle) and I put a few drops of J&J

CaliTINT got a reaction from First Revolution Tint in Questions about Mobile tinting.
I used to do mobile tinting. It's a pain in the ass if you don't do it in a garage. So what I did was only do customers cars that had their own garage (with enough room and with electricity). If they didn't I would refer them to tinters that I knew who had their own shops.

I learned my lesson. Done this a few times before and I always hated the film. Was cheap, flimsy and difficult to work with. I won't use other peoples film anymore.

But they last time someone came in, they brought two different DIY rolls. One was a real roll of film, the other was the static cling type that you can take off and repostition. I tried to explain to the customer not to use it, They were a bit aggressive and insisted that I did. I said screw it and did what they wanted lol.

Garware has been producing high quality solar film forever. The Global line I have been using for around 10 years without a single warranty claim.
I met Mr. Garware at the Sema show and he said he developed the Global qdp line to show the world the Garware company can make the best film in the world....and he did!
