TomTint got a reaction from Privacy Film Company in Applying a sealant for security film
What you are looking for is Dow Corning 995. It sounds like you installed the film on residential windows. If that's the case, it's unlikely you will get a large enough bead to be effective. The test standard is 1/2" on the frame, 1/2" on the film and 3/4" at a 45* non concave angle. ... But look on the bright side. Now ...should your glass break, it's going to just fall on the floor in 1 big piece .. Less clean up.

In large markets, new construction is utilizing incredibly high quality glass, And in some small markets as well. The new building codes are soon going to mandate efficiency levels from glass / window manufacturers that can only be met by utilizing triple pane glass. This eliminates an enormous number of the films that can be installed on the inside. Add to all this, ...because all these are so efficient ..showing a ROI to energy companies or building owners...that will be in the 50-100 year range.. is not attractive. Now... more trouble.. glass manufacturers are coming out with lowE4 or 6 units that you simply can not install any film on the inside period. And let's not forget that film costs are rising and film mfrs like to wheel out their newest and greatest ceramic bla bla bla pixy dust bla bla bla 3.00 psf hocus pocus whatever... "new" film......well as these windows get better..energy efficiency gets better.. energy costs are going down in many cases..that absolutely kills ROI for large projects. .. this will be the case in the next 5-10 years... and if you don't want to hang Film on the exterior of buildings... find another line of work..

TomTint got a reaction from TintNerdz213 in How much should a dealership worker be making?
If you are working for a dealer in their building and have no skin in the game..as far as expenses go. All you are is a laborer. Same as a car detailer. Your pay will likely be in line with what people in your area make to roll paint onto walls, mow grass, vacuume carpets or wash cars.

So I'm calling this work related because.....I'm not going to tint any of it.
I bought this CJ in 2003 from the original owner who lived in Fla. I flew down and drove it back to Mass. had it for about 3-4 years and sold it to a friend of mine when we sold our house ( I has nowhere to keep it inside when we sold ) ...fast forward to 3 weeks ago..My friend calls me and says the Jeep is up for sale.. I bought it back..12 years to the day that I sold it to him.

This was a project from a couple Saturday mornings ago. ...Dirt floor..Earth moving equipment running right behind us inside the building.. complete dust bowl of a job. Bottom windows were 71x 105 and the tops were 71 x 68. .. reverse rolled all the white frost.
Still a dirty, dusty, nasty, rotten, never want to do again type of job.

TomTint got a reaction from Bham in Maybe this PPF stuff will catch on !!!
The ppf mfrs would like you to think that it adds value to your car. In fact it does not. Calculate the initial cost to instal. Then deduct what you are secretly being penalized at trade in time to remove the stuff from a dealer, and it easily adds up to north of 2-3k. Now add in the possibility of the paint coming off with the old PPF .. or the ppf itself coming off in pieces the size of your fingernail in the future.. and that number easily doubles.. or more. Dealers like to sell it on new cars because they get to step on it and add gross to their sale. That same dealer hates seeing the car come in on trade or have to bring it to auction with ppf.
It’s s suckers bet.

You want value..read my first reply and take it to the bank. I'm 35 years in this business...I have forgotten more about film than most will ever know. Reboxers are a dime a dozen..or cheaper. They come and go with their first film failure cycle..then .."newbies" like yourself are stuck with countless numbers of warranty claims and a "friend" in the business who has no way to compensate you for the work... but..hey...he's your buddy..so go for it.......

TomTint got a reaction from Autoimage@yahoo.com in Just my observation
I may be wrong but it appears there has been a uptick in job vacancies and posts here for labor. ..Sounds to me like if you have the chops and are a quality installer... you can name your price to many of these companies who are struggling to get installers.

TomTint got a reaction from LB55 in Tint Pouch Collection
For years we just used the simple finish carpenter pouch you get at Home Depot for 10.00, on occasion, our rep would stop in and drop off a few that were branded with the Mfrs logo. ..they were free. ..I bought one from Quick Draw..and could not get rid of it fast enough.. Recently we got a few from Mike Sanchez.. and IMO, they are the best on the market. Very very well thought out and super high quality. He also embroidered our logo in them and added our company colors on the piping.
