    I got a call from a place like 3 blocks from me. Closest job I've ever had - if they go for it. Just one window...

    We'll see.. Gave them a good price since it's so close.

    All I think is - "no good deed goes unpunished".... it's a saying for a reason.

    Super Dave got a reaction from jh812 in Frankenstein or reverse roll ???
    To be honest, I am just now getting the reverse roll down to where I’m comfortable doing it and getting the equivalent quality of install. I’ve seen a bunch of other tinters do it down here, but the installs were always sub-par. So I stayed away from doing it. Did my first RR, maybe 6 mos ago and scrapped it. Also,  I always clean my “peel board” xtra if I know I need to reverse roll that car. I never do it off the car! I sometimes, still mess it up on a difficult window.

    If I had to guess they likely roll from the vehicle. That's not to say it can't be done clean that way but it takes some added steps to get it to where it needs to be imo.

    There was a gap when one of our old tinters was out for 2 weeks.  I decided to have another dealer tint my vehicle because I didn't want to wait.  The other shop has been around since the 90's and the owner himself did the install.  When it was done, I was like the back glass and windshield look like it has herpes...both were reverse rolled.  Nah, take it off and I'll wait 2 weeks.

    We Frankenstein, but like @Super Dave said it will be hard on a large window.  I am sure plenty of people have mastered the reverse roll method for cars.  However, out of the 3 experienced tinters that I saw use it, there was a lot of debris in the install.

    You always need shrink with the factory edges! It’s good to hear that you are learning and working in a shop though! There is a natural progression when you are learning to tint. Being able to spend the time it takes to be proficient at 1/4 windows, doors, and finally back windows, is priceless. No doubt you have conquered sides of cars that were difficult, but had you been responsible for the entire job, you never would have taken them. As far as those small bubble hatchback glasses, maybe learn about wet shrinking. ( or pocket shrinking) I’ve noticed that less experienced tinters “who only dry shrink “ have trouble with those type windows at first. When your wet shrinking, there are a couple things you can do to help make it easier. 1) you can cut the film just barely bigger than the border, which will make the fingers (or shrinkable area) appear much less dramatic. Every 1/8 inch bigger around the border that you make it, increases the size of those fingers considerably. 2)  you get to concerts on shrinking small portions at a time, in a more controlled fashion. So when you get to those corners, you can move excess off to the side and out of the way, and slowly pull up amounts of film that you are comfortable shrinking, until all the film is shrank.
    Good luck, you just have to keep at it!

    It depends on the windshield, I like to Frankenstein, but I’m not doing that on a Model X windshield! Both ways have their place,

    Usually about 75%, but I like to leave the liner in tact, maybe just folded. I use the xtra length to help taco the middle, to rinse, peel, and lay inside the trim. I just hold it off the door panel when I roll it up.

Always something different and more challenging for sure, any insight into how to deal with obstacles from the past helps with next years nightmare car. Experience is priceless in this industry.

    Thanks, I found a similar information. This is just weird, it doesn’t feel or move like glass. I found some other place that it said the gorilla glass is so thin it’s measured with a micrometer. Also when I started looking closer, you can see that it’s laminated. Maybe the glass is the thin layer inside? Or it’s got some kind of coating on it? Either way, I doubt you’ll have any issues with the Blister Free on normal polycarbonate. @jh812

    I think it’s been more of an adjustment for me and the wife, than him. We both work so he is used to getting up and going to “school “. There is a couple things he’s struggling with, at his daycare (private school really) he gets plenty of time to eat and lots of snack times, and he should for what it costs. Now he says he’s always hungry, he’ll be fine just needs to focus and eat faster at lunch. The other thing is he says he’s bored, and it’s not real school because he’s not learning anything. He’s gonna have to get used to that for a while because he already reads well and can write quite a bit. It doesn’t seem that most of his class has been going to daycare/school, so it’ll take them a while to catch up. But he’s already made some new friends and his teacher is top notch.

    I use the clear crush for installing Clear Plex on windshields, but only because that stuff scratches easily. I have to do at least 2 final passes, because it’s so soft. But I’ll take that over having to start over from scratching it any day.
    @pbalentine
    I modified one of those cheap orange Chanel squeegee’s from Home Depot for cleaning back glasses. Made 2 lengths,
    8in and 5in for smaller ones. I like that when you get close to the bottom, you can just slide the Chanel in the direction that works best. Also have a 12in Black n white, to get down further if needed.

    Done!! Chopped up the sideswiper blade then drilled 1/16 holes for the jaw teeth to go into.  Doesnt have much flex, but i can modify for it. I tried this months back with an old stroke doctor, but it was really stiff and thale quality of that tools suks.
