jh812 got a reaction from pbalentine in Removing top layer of tint
If you carry it to a professional they may be able to get the first layer off. Likely they will say there's no guarantee and if it messes up there's nothing they can do other than redo it. Well that's what I would say anyways.

jh812 reacted to vanhorn1 in Liability on illegal window tint
This is a wide open topic and a touchy one at that. I have been tinting for over 30 years and would not be in business if I were to only do legal film. With that being said I do understand liability but at some point the driver has to be held responsible for their choices and actions. Does the car manufacture get sued and lose their business because their car goes faster than the speed limit and was involved in a crash that killed someone while speeding? The driver chose to speed and disobey the law. Does Budweiser get sued because someone was drinking their beer and killed someone while drinking and driving? The answer is I don't know? I'm no lawyer but in this day and age you can be sued for anything at anytime.

jh812 reacted to Jake in pattern issues
I used FVD when I first got a plotter. The patterns were very hit and miss. I have used DAP for the past year. I can say the patterns are way better. What I chalk it up to is how the patterns are being sourced. FVD patters are submitted from all different shop around the country. So consistency is an issue. DAP patterns are all made in house and tested before they are added to the system. This is for newer patterns for the past few years. Old DAP patterns are not always as good because they had to get back log from existing patterns that were not made by them. But, if you are looking for that perfect micro edge every time from a plotted pattern, it's just not going to happen. DAP is as close as you are going to get with out hand cutting though.

Actually they go in smooth. I pre build the panels at the shop and literally just set them on the ledge, add a few screws to hold them together and on the ledge.
Worst part is the ladder setup or if you have to add ledging for the panels. Still haven’t spent more than an hour or so installing one.

I'm allergic to those type. Every time I put my hands on one of those bottles I break out all over in a drunk.

Welcome to the site. Only tricky thing on those is cutting that rear edge where it comes mostly out of the window. Some of those seals pull and some are one piece. Good luck.

jh812 got a reaction from Tint Slayer in No blades on glass
I do mix the ATR about 50/50 now with just enough Dawn to make it sud also. @highplains I used the blue for a long time but man it got to a point to where no matter how many times I would squeegee the window I would get a blue spec in it. Switched to the dobie and no issues. As far as the atr on prep for peanuts I believe it may help but I don't think it's the solution. That plus other stuff equals good results imo.

Counting money
People ask me that all the time. I work 6 days a week just about every week, couple that with a family doesn't leave much time for other things. In another life I used to enjoy working out a lot but that's since left.

I've done a handful of these so far, Limited's at that. They are very nice trucks.
I am a bottom loader personally and don't mind these trucks at all. I don't even bother with the bolt. I pop that back edge of the panel and sneak the sweep out. Then slip up the bottom of it to slide it back in.

jh812 reacted to pbalentine in Blue Max vs Orange Crush vs Redline etc
Got a scratch yesterday Im sure was from a nick in my bluemax. I think it might be getting scratched from the defrosters on the bg when I push to clean. I was using using one squegee just for cleaning the bg and one for install...going to do that again. After using the orange crush I will say the edge is still sharp and these really last way longer than blumax.

Just did a bathroom window in frost... New construction home at the shore. It sold for $2 million a month ago. Called the realtor to ask about renting it for a week in August... $12,750 for the week.
