Tintguy1980 got a reaction from Apex Tint in What does “DRY” refer to? (Flat Glass)
Dry adhesives (to the touch) are water-activated non-reactivable adhesive systems. Some label it CDA, CD, CDF, DA or in this case, DRY. As opposed to pressure sensitive (sticky) adhesives, dry adhesives need water, the silica in glass to activate and heat to dry out and cure to bond.

Pressure sensitive adhesives do not need activating or curing. They require a slip agent to lower tack long enough to 'press' the adhesive to the surface. It is pressure 'sensitive; the greater the pressure the better surface bond it obtains, all the while the slip agent gets removed. These adhesives do not cure, they simply dry out and bond strength reaches maximum.

Dry pressure sensitive adhesives or detactified (dry to the touch) have a coating on their surface that needs be flushed away to expose the tacky aspect of the pressure sensitive adhesive below. They, too, do not cure, they simply dry out to maximum bond strength.

Hey Long, just thought I’d chime in here and give you a comment. All of our window films use 4th Gen dyes, including our Classic series. We have been using this film for over 5 years in the hottest climates in the USA with ZERO complaints of turning purple.

If you have any additional questions give me a call at 800-825-3746 and I’ll answer them as I can. I can also give the number of a guy in Omaha who has been using the Classic series for 5 years so you can hear it from an actual user of the film.

    Thanks,
    Shawn

Yes, always precut arches especially before going up a ladder.

Compassing is easy with symmtrical arches (height = 1/2 the width). For asymmetrical arches use the greater dimension; height or half the width (if half the width is greater than the height times 2). Have I got your mind twisted yet.

I have found it to be much easier, especially when dealing with large arch top windows, to precut them as close as possible.

You can make a simple compass with some string and a sharpie. I’ve even used a strip of film when I had misplaced my stringed marker and had to cut it on the job.

Mark your halfway point at the bottom of your piece and then mark the height, extra included each way. Tape or thumb the string  on your center mark and trace out your curve.

Arch tops with the extended legs can be marked by dropping the center below the bottoms of your piece. Just mark you leg heights and center height. Play around with the amount you drop the center until all three points line up.

When it comes to gothic, ellipse, or bell top type windows I’ll usually try to tape the piece up and mark a general outline. Makes it so much easier not having to deal with all that excess.

The custom shutters for the house were the simplest using PVC planks.
The dining table has interchangeable top; if we tire of the Barnwood look the trim can be removed and planks replaced with another type laminate flooring.
The deck swing bench has a recycled umbrella canvas for shade and the cup holders are recycled track-light fixture covers.😁

My understanding is that it has to do with non-disclosure agreements with the manufacturers. All the private label companies would probably love to tell you that their film is made by Garware or Eastman etc. but they can't, or they might not want to for other reasons. What if they're trying to build a premium brand and are trying to avoid being labeled as a reboxer? Or trying to avoid any preconceptions and prejudices for a certain manufacturer? Just as an example I've spoken with a longtime Llumar installer that thought Global was garbage because of it's price point and the fact that it's not Llumar, he never tried it but still had that opinion.  Sometimes the information does make it out the back door or is speculated about, but you're not likely ever going to see an official statement from either the manufacturer or the company marketing the private label film.

In some cases you might be getting the same formula. If you knew you could get your true Nutella formula out of a private label jar and save a buck or two in the process are you still going to pay more for the flagship label?
