Yes I thought that, the guy I did pay said that the person being sent out to come back here woule be the older brother of the guy who put it on (probably why he's pissed off, saying his little bro botched our house). I don't want people coming in 1. Being aggressive at me and my elderly relative, and 2. Doing a job for us when furious (they're hardly gonna put in care and attention).

He said this other dude is now the one I have to deal with as he is the one in charge of the install (which I was never notified). I hired him off the reviews I was told to check, which are all with the main company dude as the one who did the install. Nobody was sent a random subcontractor or w.e.

It's about 5K in dollars. 3K in pounds.

I have a local professional who will strip the film and do it fresh next Thursday. I don't want these other people coming back here trying to intimidate me or touching my house any further etc. If I get photos before and after of each window can I then take those to court?

I wouldn't mind going to court, they can't start trying to fight me in a courtroom... The guys he sent on his behalf to install sound like really horrible people tbh. If I wanted another company to do it I would have paid another company. Don't expect to pay one company then he fucks off on holiday and sends another business.

He can be pissed all he wants, that's unacceptable at $3k. Intimidating a client, also unacceptable. I would offer him two choices, refund immediately or see him in court.

If you used a card to pay,  you could dispute and reverse the charges. I doubt you can reason with this guy. This would be my first choice before all others. Don't invite a hothead into your personal space unless you want a brawl with his ego.

Before removal, mark outside edge, so you can match that extreme micro edge gap.

The sad part is you probably could have found a shop that has a Ceramic option for under $300 with warranty. Never buy film online, it is going to be cheap quality film and might not even be a Ceramic. Even if it is Ceramic, that doesn't mean it is a cheap film, many will turn purple in a year in the right climate. Any name brand options online are going to be fake knockoffs since the bigger brands do not allow online sales. I think the only exception is Express window films which is decent. However, much easier just to get everything from a shop.

My daily is 20 on the fronts, 35 over factory in the rear, 80 on the 'shield with a 5 brow. Wife's ride has 35 on the fronts, 20 over factory in the rear with 80 on the shield with 5 brow as well. My nice/weekend/going out car has 35 all around and nothing on the shield. Edited to add, they're all done in ceramic all the way around minus the brows.

It is in the US if it's classified as a passenger vehicle. I've noticed more and more vehicles being classified as MPVs on the Vin tags in the doors jamb and they're mostly shipping with privacy glass in the rear. I also believe that in the international market (certain markets anyway) they're allowed privacy glass from the factory on sedans

Occasionally I'll go out to a few local bodyshops to do small jobs, mostly to help out when they can't get someone reliable to show up on time or if they don't think the mobile techs can handle the install, like full bumpers or for picky customers.

The biggest challenge that I hear from the installers is not having a peel board. These two tables have been my go to solution for years. Cheap, lightweight and no glass to break or for anyone to stumble into.
I hope this helps someone in this position. Good luck and happy tinting!!

If you remember I did I a 5 series a few years back that had privacy on only the back driver or passenger roll up. Not the qtr or back or any other window. New from the dealer. The Wehrmacht’s quality control was lacking that day .

@JohnGalt if I were in your position I'd try calling them directly and see if they'd sell you a short roll. Almost every other film they offer is available in a 50' roll, doesn't hurt to ask.

I likely would be at 3k plus travel for a quality install in ceramic guessing that I would need at least two installers, scaffold and knowing that the roof has a large piece of glass above the operator.

For a lick-n-stick with a mediocre film maybe 2.25k plus travel. Those are brutal installs, especially if you're out on a dirt lot struggling in the sun.

For context I just bid a pair of front end loaders at 1k each plus travel. The only question I got was "when can you do it?"

It could be trimmed by hand to the edge of the stripe but there is risk involved in that. Beyond that I don't think you have a lot of options, unfortunately those factory stripes are inconsistent in their placement so getting that precut piece to line up with them 100% perfectly 100% of the time isn't always possible. Your options as I see it are to live with it; have it trimmed by hand; or have the film and stripes removed, the film reapplied and then new stripes applied over the film.

    Morning all.
Had a heap of these come back with tint scratched off neqr mirror cover.
    Done 4 this week.
Door striker just clears glass when new.
If wind pulls the door it bends striker just enough to hit the glass when door is closed and window rolled down.
Just a heads up incase you cop warranty to have a look at this befor retinting.

@highplains I've used Press-n-Seal and multiple towels to try to stop solution, but "some" always runs from somewhere and leaves a mark.

I now do these = " At the customers risk " .  They are told before hand + I do my best to not let solution leave a mark and then it's on them if it messes up.

The top of those panels pop loose so easily it's a non issue for me. Pop the top, yank the seal out, and cover the panel with a walmart bath towel. In my opinion there is no easier money in tinting than the '14-18 GM full size trucks. The included picture isn't that truck but shows what I'm talking about.
