Super Dave got a reaction from pbalentine in Shrinking curved glass
I prefer to wet shrink! I feel like I’m the only one left that wet shrinks. But I like it because I can control where I want the film to shrink, it definitely helps on the really tough windows. Examples: Porsche Targa, model x windshield, model 3 b-glass, hell all the way back to the 08 beetle and early90’s cuttless supreme b-glass. And there’s no mess to clean up when your done shrinking. I used to be finished with windows before the other guy in my shop got his wax dry for shrinking. Then I’m on to the next while he scrubs it all off. He wasn’t very good I’ll admit, I’m sure that a lot of the vets in here are much more proficient in their dry shaping techniques. But if you don’t get those windows done, maybe learn and try wet shrinking

Super Dave got a reaction from quality tintz in How long does it take to learn bottom loading from top loading???
Another thing to keep in mind is water quality around the country is very different. It will impact the amount of slip you need to add. Especially if you use tap water , added a specific filter, or you buy bottled water for install. Also, I use several different lines of window tint every day, which means I adjust the amount of slip accordingly. When one of those factors change you will have to do some trial and error to get the slip back where you prefer it.

We get paid labor, so..... he's gonna quit or get let go soon. I'm sure. What is messed up is that there was no working interview or training period he was taken at his word and it is costing me money. We need a younger tech with a clean driving record and we have the exact opposite

I learned bottom loading first years ago. The only reason I would top load now is if you can't remove the gaskets or maybe it takes too long so it's not worth it. In most cases you will get s cleaner install if you can bottom load.

Super Dave reacted to TintDude in Tint law debate!
No one has called you names, and everyone has been very respectful and offered their opinions. I'm sorry that you feel like we are all "f$&kin a-holes". So, I'm sorry it didn't work out for you here, and must respectfully ask you to leave if you are going to call people names and try to cause drama.
Thanks and sorry it didn't work out.

Super Dave got a reaction from DynamicATL in No warranty?
No shop is going to give a customer a receipt for illegal work. In some states, the fines can be way more than an expensive tint job. If there was something wrong with the job ( as far as workmanship) I would like to think that shop would take care of it. I know that places I’ve worked for in the past have. I seriously doubt that any
manufacturer would warranty an illegal tint job!

Super Dave got a reaction from TNTLady in Tesla 3 Windshield Film Computer Problems
Haven’t done the 3 yet, but I’ve done several X’s and a ton of S’s. I’m terrified of burning something up on a windshield, but especially Tesla’s. I always double up the microfibers on Tesla dashes and I use the soakshield. I clean it with one in, then change to a dry one for install. So far so good. And that’s a ton of water on that x windshield, to get that thing positioned right, window needs extra slip and to stay nice and wet for a good amount of time

I agree that the technology of self darkening glass will be ever more present, but how would the glass know which state you are in and darken accordingly? Also 20 years ago the privacy glass on vehicles was going to put us all out of business! One thing that I am sure of is that if you want to keep growing your business, you must adapt to the ever changing marketplace.

Paint Protection Film and Security Tint are great examples of that! Both are very profitable. Also you wouldn't believe the amount of Clear-Plex I install now. Anti-Graffiti film is another example. So you very well may be onto something with the exterior film. Who knows in 10 years that may be the norm for Res/Comm work

Super Dave reacted to pbalentine in Is slip tape for hard cards good????
I like this tool a lot, but get knicks very easy compared to the eazy reach. They should make them like the teflon hard cards.

Uber's and autonomous vehicles will still need tint, one of the many great things about America is that the states somewhat make their own laws. Since states have different window tint laws, it would be very expensive for manufacturers to try to solve that issue.

Super Dave reacted to DynamicATL in CERAMIC IR FILMS
If you want to maximize your profit while offering the same technologies, Global and SolarFX would be great. You could undercut the more expensive film shops a touch. If you want to compete with them on brand, Huper would probably be the only option. Madico is another great option, but a less known name however Wincos is a great film along with Charcool.

Id say the first dozen or so were tuff. Some i could do, then next time round had trouble. I been waiting for tinting to be easy and it never did...until i started bottom loading. It less stressful, no killing your wrist by chisling out creases, and its easier to handle for install.
I bottom loaded a 17' Fusion today and it was easier then the last. The rear rollups on it are a must to bottom load.

Got stuck with this late today. Not exactly what you want to work on Friday at 4pm! But luckily it turned out good.

I like doing pinnacle 30/front 50 rear. It's the best look I can provide in/out. Looks classy. Throw some air 80 on the windshield and call it a day. Interior color affects appearance lighter/darker. It's a challenge.
