drtint got a reaction from quality tintz in Expected pay per vehicle tinting at a dealership?
Accepting a job at the local dealership. Are you working independently or for a dealership program? Are they preloading or cherry picking? Are they wanting to pay you through the dealership as an employee? A number of variables exist here. If you can spit the details, I could tell you exactly how to approach it. I actually helped several installers get their own gig and placement in Georgia dealerships. Don’t get boned....
    Cheers

Save yourself a head ache. Have your glass guy pull the window for 50 buck (explain to customer needs to be done to be right) clean and tint the window and be done with the headache, or let the job go. Trust me, you will spend more time and frustration than it’s worth trying to do all that in the car

If it is lines of water blisters, you are not overlapping your squeege strokes as you move down the window. Check that your installation tool is smooth and that you are overlapping your strokes.
spray your solution on a piece of any glass, run you install squeege over it and see if it left any streaks...if so, that is your problem, if not, overlap your strokes.
If you are getting specs of dirt or dust, see if you are running fans or ac and as they have told you check your water bottles.

Anyway, the bonus and responsibility of a good prepper is to pull the vehicle in, watch installer as to where they start or finish, stay behind the install and in front of the delivery which is as an installer you would lay the film and the prepper would learn your moves and pick up on the other responsibilities. Our prep guy pulls the vehicle in, opens all doors, cleans all glass from passenger side around. Installer installs from passenger side around and prepper cleans installed glass and parks vehicle and gets the next one.
they learn quick because in their mind they want to tint and be that guy. Our preppers touch up everything on the lot while we are installing the next one. They are valuable with high volume and workmanship. After 4-6 months of prepping we give them the responsibility of installing and see where they are. Makes life easy.
a good prepper with a set of hands and extra pair of eyeballs is invaluable.

What is certified in this business? Ask yourself; can I install window film and do I do a quality job and most of all; would I pay for the work I have performed and am satisfied that I would pay for it. Been doing this for a while. Never been certified by 3m ( outside of the fact they don’t make film) they have their own installation practices that help you achieve your results in installing their materials which is what you need to do anywhere with any material. Not going to get into it, but 3m runs a three day certification program  (after committing to a minimum order)  and what do you feel that is worth. There are a lot of professionals that don’t use 3m and do a tremendous amount of business. I am a college grad and never used the degree I received, also never ordered (but have installed) their products. Doesn’t really mean a lot. You are your sales and pitch and use a quality product and you will be fine. I wrote certifications for 12 years for my installers, doesn’t mean they can’t weld and only install film.
Bottom line, believe in yourself. I have an auto detailed friend in Kentucky  that does 400,000.00 a year and can’t read or write. You think he was certified?

Amendment to what I was saying. As PPF Distributing mentioned, I would say either way would bring the correct results and would be up to the comfort of the installers. I like to anchor sides first and some may be more comfortable anchoring from the center. Thanks

I think you are getting way ahead of yourself...learn how to tint first getting atleast a few years under your belt.  Taking a training class is only going to show you the basics on very easy vehicles, you will still be a complete novice not knowing what to do on a lot of vehicles.  Being able to advertise your "Certified" isn't going to mean anything if you're producing trash work.  There are tons of shops that throw the "Certified" word around and they have had zero formal training...it is just a empty gimmick.  I can name atleast 5 tinters/shops in GA that claim to be certified with 10/20 years experience when their work shows maybe 6 months experience.  Hell next week we are having to tint a C6 Corvette rear window because Tint World can't get it done after 3 attempts.  Basically if your skills can't back up that certification, then it is 100% worthless.

As for 3M, you will need to check with the distributor offering the training as they might require you to be a dealer...I am honestly not sure.  If they do require it, I highly doubt 3M would sign you on as a dealer without an already established shop.  It is also going to be the worst film to train on since it is more difficult and more expensive.  There are plenty of dealers that have been tinting for years that still can't install 3M's higher performing films.  Also when trying different films, different techniques/tools are needed.  So if you get "Certified" on one, you might have to completely switch it up on another brand.

Nice to have a tool that everyone can relate too. Just curious as to the desperate, lonely behind the computer installer that came up with that name for a tool.

There is a wealth of info on this topic in many different threads as well as YouTube. You will need to navigate these particulars. If I have to step by step explain and answer your particular questions, there will be a service charge
Why would you take off a rear window? You have the training down? Did they train you to take off the rear window? How did that go? I am curious because I have never done that. Been doing this a while and would love to learn a new technique. Thank you

If you are. Only doing cars and the average car is under 60 grand and only concerned about the vehicle, you can get it for under 400.00 for 6 mo. If you are moving vehicles across the road, talk to an insurance agent...chit happens... don’t let it cost you you livelihood. Get transit plates and ins.

Does not affect removals. It is not intended for film to go over, it is intended for blacking out and the film is lower than that. When you cut or use a plotter for your pattern, it gives you an option like on 2 dr civic accords, to cut the pattern for the glass and a separate option to include the fritt area. You cut only the glass area and use this for a permanent blackout that looks natural and pleasing to the customers. If you have any questions as to the best way to use it, let me know not a problem.
    cheers
