If your really doing great work and getting picked then RAISE YOUR PRICES!  I bet you'll find less complaining the higher you get.

This is only IF you are truly doing great work though.

I like to say anything is possible, but I haven't seen one yet. Once film is exposed to the air, you are going to get something on there. Not to mention film can come with specs from the manufacturer. We let the customer know real world expectations straight from the jump. If they insist they have received or can receive a perfect tint job, we let them know we are not the shop for them. Then once they find that shop to please bring the vehicle to us once it dries so we can point out all the imperfections. Only had two people take me up on it and both times were embarrassed when we found over 10 problems each job. It is like when someone comes in with a new vehicle and they insist their vehicle is perfect because it is new. Cool, let's go walk the car together then their jaw drops when we point out scratches, defects in paint, scratches on glass, etc. I love walking the Tesla Model 3 since it has the worst quality paint job I've ever seen from a manufacturer.

I have done one a few weeks ago and it was pretty easy! The windshield is going to be normal, not like the Model X so no worries there. Roof glass is large but if you have rolls for the Model 3 you'll be fine!

QDP and ATC are both entry-level window films from quality manufacturers. Just go with the shop that will do the best installation.

Global would be your best bet. If i had prices like that in my area i would find another line of work.

Following: Have had a rep stop by as well and dropped of samples months ago. Although we have not tried the sample as of yet. They are know for their wraps and other products and I did see their tint displays at SEMA. I think there are a few on here that use it.

smookee408@yahoo.com got a reaction from Stewy in Tesla model 3 burnt defroster
I’ve been in contact with a Tesla tech and he has seen this issue. He says Tesla won’t warranty the glass for the defroster issue. Tesla makes the defroster run hotter to clear condensation on the top part that doesn’t have the lines. That will severely affect any tint. It’s just a matter of time for any model 3 that has tint. He did however say they wail warranty the “fissure crack” that might be good news for my customer. I told my customer to go that route with them. I’ll keep you guys posted.

Wow WTF! I just did one and had to scrap the first backglass piece. It crunch up at the bottom. Turns out there’s a rubber lip at the very bottom center. A lip that’s glue to the glass. Peanuts left and right on this one. After further examination I don’t think you’ll need to take out the rear shelf. Get a good flashlight and your olfa and scrap it off while pushing down on the shelf. I’m going on on my second attempt. The 2019’s are getting bumped up in price for sure!

I think the amount of time it takes to do it versus the amount we charge makes it not worth doing.  We would just prefer to tint the whole windshield than just a strip.  I am partially biased since I think sunstrips are stupid looking unless they come from the factory.  I cringe anytime I see them on a nicer vehicle...just looks cheap to me.

Happened to me at work twice now, thought I should give the warning. First time I thought it was a fluke, second time I noticed a pattern.

When you squeeze out the back window, the water will run PERFECTLY down the drivers side, down the inner quarter and funnel over a wiring harness that's part of the blindspot monitoring system, triggering a fault on the dash and saying see the dealer. Thankfully I work for a Honda dealership, so no biggie.

If in the event this happens to you- pop the trunk, pull back the trunk liner on the left hand side by removing the cargo hook tucked in the corner (pressure clipped in) and peel it back. The harness is right there when you pull it back, you can't miss it. Unplug both harnesses and take compressed air and blow all the water out and you're back in business. Won't throw a hard code, no need to go to the dealer if it happens.

Figured I'd save everyone the panic attack.

Remodeled and moved into a 60 year old service station as our new larger location February 1st and haven’t looked back!  We’ve nearly tripled the last two years numbers in 8 months!  85% of tint jobs are ceramic now. And the lift/level and accessory side doesn’t show any signs of slowing down!  This far 2019 has been a phenomenal year.

This is just the water solution from the installation...when they started driving the vehicle, excess water spilled onto the slide.  We had a couple of vehicles do this and both completely dried in a few days leaving nothing behind.  In our cases, there was no need to get it detailed.

smookee408@yahoo.com reacted to DynamicATL in New Llumar IRX
We changed how we use the heat lamp when we rolled out IRX...our original way doesn't work well.  Originally, we would spin the wheel letting the customer feel ATC, CTX, and AIR.  We would only spin the wheel once since the jump was drastic enough, the customer got the idea the first time.  When we changed the lineup up to ATC, CTX, and IRX we noticed the jump between CTX/IRX was minor.  How did we change our approach?  We now let the customer feel ATC, then CTX, then IRX, then we go back down to CTX, and lastly back up to IRX.  We noticed when you feel CTX after IRX, you will feel some heat coming through.  When you go back to IRX, the heat you were just feeling with CTX is virtually gone.  I would say we do 1-2 vehicles a day on average in IRX with the majority of others going with CTX or Crystalline.

    @jh812 is correct.

there is “one” thing you can do to fix it
you can razor blade all the defroster lines down, then the film will lay in smooth. Defroster won’t work ever again, but it will look great.

I got a heat box from @Midtown Houston and put 35% samples of ATC, CTX and IRX in it. The drop in felt heat between ATC and CTX is honestly incredible to me. The drop from CTX to IRX isn't nearly as drastic but you can still tell a difference. It has already swayed a few customers for me and has me fully convinced that when mine gets redone it will be getting IRX.

smookee408@yahoo.com got a reaction from TintDude in Dirt contamination problem
Contamination can be many factors. Easy for some and harder for others. The biggest are your prep and environment. I was tinting in my garage for many years and didn’t realize how good I had it. I use to have the garage open when tinting even with a slight breeze would get excellent results. Now that I’m in my new shop I have to have the roll up doors closed when tinting. I’ve also figured out that it has to be closed for a few minutes before peeling. I use to peel the backglass off of the car but can’t do that anymore and use my peeler. The small holes in the shop also contributes. I’ve patched up small holes with duct tape and has helped. There’s small holes at the top of the shop A frames where dust is coming in from my neighbors but I need a big ass ladder to get to. Hard water can be issues. To get excellent results you have to control the environment. Every day I use a leaf blower and dust mop multiple times a day.
As for using razor blades I’m moving away from that as the new glass are chit and can scratch easy. Use a scrubbie! If you can’t control the environment then maybe it’s time to move.
