you tell them to go get the tint done perfectly somewhere else.  if they bring it back and YOU can't find a flaw, then give them the full price for the tint and the removal fee from the other shop.  i guarantee you will not be paying any money out of pocket.

i always leave a slight gap.  if someone wants it shaved, i charge extra.

30 years in the biz and no one complains about a nice, even, small gap.

i usually use some flat black vinyl and cover that button from the rear outside just enough to cover the button.

Looks good to me. Those are hard to do as you can't hide the edge of the tint (no border) Ford didn't start putting a black border on their back windows until 07 or 08. Not worth the money to me, I turn down any older Ford like this for these very reasons.

the boards are glass.  been using the same ones for 20 years.  surprisingly they are not too beat up yet with scratching.

i've rented all my life.  so nice to have my own place with no overhead.

also, i made this place super clean and bright and epoxied the floor.  i have always thought my work was good.  but when you have a super clean environment, it makes all the difference.

well, got out of the commercial location and it's time to relax

set up a little shop in the home garage, upped the prices, and only tint the easy stuff from now on

notice, i put an 8' door in so i don't have to tint high vehicles(since i'm old)

Two things that I've learned since I've been in this business. Within 5 minutes of meeting another installer. 1 they'll tell me how fast they are. 2 how much money they make. Funny thing is generally neither is true.

That's likely from the window rolling up and down and getting fine vertical scratches from debris in the felt flaps at bottom of the frame.

Not your tinter's fault and there is nothing we do that would cause those kinds of scratches on the outside.

Usually these types of fine scratches aren't noticed until there is tint on it to give it contrast, so it's not unusual for people to blame the tinter for defects that were already there, but not noticeable until tinted.

There are some kinds of scratches tinters can cause, during trimming and interior prep, but those are neither.

had the same thing for 2 fronts and the customer just kept arguing
so i said to him " if you had a stereo installed and it broke, would you throw the stereo out and expect it to be covered under warranty?"

The reason is called light refraction. The tint bends around the defroster lines causing a distortion that the light *refracts* off of due to the uneven surface.

No, you can't do anything about it.

    You're welcome.

Not the worst but not perfect.  No perfect tint job though or it is very rare!

That could be heated up, carded, and made to look a lot better.

It really isn't that horrible and if you stop obsessing you might never notice it unless your cleaning the window.

with the guys i have trained in the past, i felt it took 2 years to really get it down-and that is with direction.  not that you couldn't tint a window sooner-i just felt that it took that long to really be confident and adept at tinting a full car with no trouble.  i have to add that i take things really slow when training.

so don't give up.  and remember, you can make money and not be perfect.  turn some jobs out.  do the best you can. and then fix your mistakes if they get noticed.  when you fix your mistakes and you are not getting paid for your time, you learn quick.

This is why talking to the customer is very important. The more they talk the more information you can gather from them. This lets you weed out the bad customers. A vibe check. Ill say no to alot of customer and set the proper expectations. Those customers that want it perfect usually have entry level luxury vehicles.  I’ve tinted alot of cars in 15 years and no car is perfect. Once in awhile maybe one window is perfect. I spend alot of my installation time finding the imperfections and heating it out before a customer can even lay eyes on it. This will solve many issues because once they see something they can unsee it.

If your really doing great work and getting picked then RAISE YOUR PRICES!  I bet you'll find less complaining the higher you get.

This is only IF you are truly doing great work though.
