highplains got a reaction from TintDude in 2021 Ford F150
New F150's have revised door panels among other changes but process is basically unchanged. There's one 7mm behind the sail panel at the top corner and two 7mm behind the access cover under the arm rest. The top of the panel will then pull back/roll off the seal and the seal cam be removed. For full removal there's two more 7mm at the bottom edge and on more behind the reflector at the rear of the panel. I only did the front doors so no info on the rears but I doubt there's anything radically different there either. Biggest improvement is no longer having to remove the armrest trim.

highplains reacted to goodtohave in 2021 Polestar 2
Been lurking here a long time but have never posted....
Just did the new Polestar 2. Very easy car. I don’t pull panels, the bottom trim is not tight, sides have lots of room but are a but deep. No quarter windows which is always a bonus.
Back window brake light is not covered, lots of room, has little curve and is a hatchback.
Weird part was waking up the car to make the power windows work. Like a Tesla no start button, you just need the key fob in the car, sit on the drivers seat and it powers up. But when you get out after a few seconds it shuts down. After some experimenting I found if you open the door, sit down and then while the door is open latch the drivers door so it thinks it is shut. Then push the brake and shift it in and out of drive and hit park. With the door left latched it keeps the car awake and I was able to tint all the windows. I also latched all the other doors shut while open.

highplains got a reaction from Tint Slayer in Bright headlights
I'll second the Luxe film, I've used some of their mid/medium smoke and it worked well for me. The other thing would be to maybe get your headlights re-aimed down a bit.

I love this guy. Between him and his buddies. His wife and his family. I do maybe 10-12 cars a year for them.

Hey, I hope you are able to get your car tinted to your liking.
I am going to ask you to move on now though. Not sure why you would want to be posting around people you disdain anyway.
Thanks.

highplains reacted to Ryker in which tint to go with?
This is the "thunderdome" and you must not have been around long!
The truth is this golf guy is NOT going to be happy. He is going to think that he didn't get dark enough, the heat rejection isn't what he thought it would be, defroster lines will be sparkling with headlights behind at night, the normal less than perfect tint job will have to many "bubbles" of dust, he'll see the imperfections in his window glass that show up with tint applied!
He will not be happy....so I told the truth.

highplains reacted to Ryker in 13 year old Global
So I had a car in for a new door glass tinting. Did this 13 years ago. It is HP 05. As you can see there is no visible fade color change.
This is a delivery vehicle that is outside all the time.
Glad I switched.

Panel rolls off seal, front quarters are cake. Front door rear edge is tight and deep. Doable but need some more slip. The 3rd brake light is a pain literally to remove. Think Audi but add 3 10mm bolts that are in there real deep, pop push clips out headliner at back to start. There’s a keeper on each of the bolts that makes getting it started easier. Sunroofs are kinda stupid still. And there was no getting a rope in the dash for the shield. Super tight on driver side. Another easy car ruined by engineers

highplains reacted to Capital PPF_Norm in Suntek PPF-C vs Suntek Ultra. Going with Ceramic Pro 9H
Sorry, but I have to disagree that precut kits create a 'no risk to cutting the paint'. Because sooner or later, that pre-cut kit isn't going to line up quite right. Sometimes.. Not even daily, it is going to need to be trimmed by the installer. IF (this is the important part, this IF) the installer does not have very good knife skills, then it's far more likely he WILL cut into the paint because he does not practice using the knife day in and day out.
Bulk installers ALSO can get into the paint. I'm not saying they can't just that you can't say the opposite is true with pre-cut kits.
On the other hand, I've installed and trimmed out a number of bumpers, mirrors, etc, etc where you might find a hunk of schmegle after the installation is finished. It's in a spot where I simply could not sneek under the film to remove the contamination, so off came the whole bumper installation (Mirrors are more likely to take 2 installs as I try to cover as much as possible for a 'seamless' look). I look carefully at all my cuts areas to check if there are any paint cuts just to be sure I haven't lost 'the touch'.

Little bit of White Matte and Feather Gradient. Almost got thrown off the job because I removed my mask for a few minutes while in the sweltering hot/humid pool room by myself, in a hotel that has yet to open with maybe 3-4 people in the whole entire building. Fun times...

highplains got a reaction from Tint Eastwood in Acceptable install? Bubbles, dust, fibers oh my.
I know @Tint Eastwood and @jh812 are both in NC, not sure if they're within reasonable distance to Raleigh though. Perhaps they can give you another recommendation if they're not able to get you taken care of.

That's a random one. I did this 97ish S90 a few weeks ago
Definitely had some quote requests on some odd older rides recently.
