Tint Slayer got a reaction from Diablo's Tint in Building new peel board
Duuuuude, looks amazing! The 3'-0 long base looks better, i was going to call out 3'-0 like you did but i wanted it to fit thru doorways if needed though i can't think of many reasons for that need lol. The vertical sides should be screwed into that little piece for extra bracing. The only concern i had was i tried to do without the diagonal bracing like shown in the pic below, i made the connection at the base beefy to where it should be ok, but let me know if you ever feel it needed the brace or if it doesn't feel solid or any input and i'll change the drawing and repost.
I also was thinking of using a 6"+ roof gutter centered under the wood at the bottom of the glass so the water collects and goes out the side.
Are those 3/8" lag screws you used to connect it?
Great job and great choice in film!

Tint school.....where to begin.. . . I would start by looking for more than some guy who is going to teach you which side of the film is sticky and then give you the number to the customer service desk so you can order film at retail plus 30% prices..
A good "tint school" should involve several days of marketing and sales traning. Also your chosen school should invest time in you and do some research into your area and demographic ..and offer a tailored plan of action for you. ..No need to try and open a auto tint shack if there are already 40 of them in a 5 mile radius. .. A good school should also inform you of ALL the brands available on the market and supply you with the reps names and numbers for your area. A good school will help you formulate a sales strategy for gaining business ....and keeping it. They should help inform you what it takes to keep the business successful and how to scale for growth.. I could go on and on... But there are thousands of guys who can show you how to stick plastic on glass... That's the easy part.

I'm a very/stubborn and slow/thorough learner. The stubborn part got me where I am today. I am a good teacher now that I'm older and have experience to draw from. Also @TintDude this place has been exponentially helpful after having discovered it. But there is absolutely no way in hell anyone is gonna pay 20k to learn a trade when someone more realistic like a film company charges a couple hundred bucks. @Midtown Houston 20k really

Maybe I’m out on a limb here but......20k? C’mon man, that’s some BS and you know it.

14 days training and 20k...You will tint like a pro when I am done with you!!!! Before you say that too expensive....No one in this country that can train you to tint in 2-4 days...it is all basic stuff and hopefully you got the common sense to learn the rest...your failure rate is 90% and you will make very expensive mistakes and you will make these mistakes for years...Not with me...also you will make money after I train you !!!!! And not stuck doing friends and family car for free until you learn....

Kid was asking me if i can recommend a good tint school he can go to, i came up blank. He seems pretty smart, he doesn't want to learn online or with videos or in someones shop (like everyone suggests to him), he wants a hands on classroom instruction that covers auto/residential/commercial and gives him proof that he was trained. He seems to be really serious about doing it right.
Any good school or training like that anyone can recommend that teaches it all?

Solargard used to have a hands on class to teach people, I’m pretty sure they still have the classes going ! 1 instructor and 2 students per class ! It was like $500 for the class

Global is a solid film. Virtually the only film manufacturer that produces its own product from start to finish.

I don't know where they source their film these days, I would be weary of these type of chain store types. It's a little like going to McDonalds.... A quick meal but you will probably feel like crap a little later.

Tint Slayer reacted to Blackwolftinting in Window tint question
Is it 70 feet or 70 inches in length? Either way, I think the Prelude back window is taller than 30” top to bottom. So that would mean the film would get spliced. And that’s caacaa. I have people call me from time to time and ask me how much I charge to install their film. I flat out tell them I only install my own film. The majority of the cost in a tint job is my skill and professionalism. Not the actual film. Although I refuse to buy a sub-standard product.
-
Tint Slayer reacted to Blackwolftinting in average time it takes you to tint a vehicle?
On average, the actual tinting takes about 40-60 minutes per car. However the car is generally at my shop for about 1.5 hours. I have to talk to the customer. Pull the car inside. Prep it. Cut it. Tint it. Clean it. Pull it outside. Touch up. Bill the customer out and give him care instructions. The entire time I’m fielding phone calls or dealing with an occasional used car customer. Some cars don’t take as long. Some take longer. But I always over-estimate the time for the customer(1.5-2 hours). Under promise and over deliver.

Tint Slayer reacted to MIssissippi in I need to build a work cart--automotive setting--IDEAS?
That is not exactly what I meant. Back in 1990 when I started tinting in Texas, my boss had 3 rolling "carts". That's what we called them. I saw a thread that called it a peel board last night. It was a 2x4 A-frame, plywood bottom with glass on one side at about a 60 to 70 degree angle. Since this is not going to be my shop, I was trying to brainstorm and find a smaller footprint work station--peel board. I'm not going to invest in a plotter to make my cuts so I need a place to finish out my edges and strip the liner from.

You're not going to save money paying 200 for film!

Tint Slayer reacted to Ryker in Window tint question
Film is cheap in the cost of a window tint job. Don't buy your own film. I for one will not even consider putting on any film but what I offer!
Would you take your own eggs to Dennys?

Case closed got a 5 star review from her. Point is try to do the best you can do to handle the situation even if it’s not your fault. Listen to their concern and try to rectify it.
