No knife hitting the paint for any reason here, I'd like to see a better pic of the damage as it doesn't even look bad from what I think I'm seeing  Were child seats involved  Did you move your girlfriend/boyfriend recently  Nobody has the time or wants to look like it's a repeat problem and take the time to document every tiny thing they find with pictures, unless they've overbooked you to check in Cameron's dads Ferrari.   I've been accused of some stupid  in my day so I'm on the defensive here for ma fellow tinter.

Your said what.    "4 days prior I prepared by taking pics of all the windows and paint areas around them in case there were scratches/damage after tinting."" NO ONE DOES THIS."
You sound like the guy that eats 90% of his meal and complains to get a free meal. I wonder if your yelp reviews are 70% 1 stars and 30% 2 stars.
Dude!!  4 days before you take pics predicting this would happen. Ive seen this before and pisses me off that people try this. Now!  if you had 4k video in front of the shop that same day 5 mins before handing over the keys. You might have a case. Remember your in snow territory. Your car probably has marks everywhere.
Once your car leaves the shop your done. How can you 100% say it was them" You can't"
Thats like blaming someone for stealing your wallet and later on you find your wallet. You end up feeling really stupid and bad about it.
I believe we know what really happened

these situations are posted here all the time and even with both sides of the story, we still don't know who is to blame and no one here can make that call.

i see a bunch of scenarios here
    1) car was scratched when it went in
    2) shop scratched car on accident and knows about it and is denying it
    3) car got scratched at shop and no one even realized it
    4) customer got a scratch after leaving
    5) someone walked by car while it sat in shops parking lot and scratched it on accident
    6) customer stops for gas on the way to shop and it gets scratched
    7) probably others you can come up with.....

i've accidentally damaged cars in my shop before(after almost 30 years, you're gonna have a couple) and i've paid to get them fixed.  but i've also been blamed for damage i didn't do and i will NEVER bend to paying for that.  i, for one, am not a believer that the customer is always right because too many people take advantage of a situation.

Sounds fishy the guy would take all those pics before the job, so he knew he’d have some ammo for after the job was finished. I don’t buy it at all. In the end, he got a free tint job and will never get the scratch fixed. If he posted pics we could all tell if the scratch was from the installer. I feel like this isn’t his first rodeo. Probably eats all of his dinner, then complains that it was no good to get it comp’d.

that was my point, we don't know what the rest of his car looked like, and in the end the customer got what he wanted.
While there may be nasty business people, there are customers who will try turn a spec into a free tint.

Ok, I'll play devils advocate, Everyone is assuming the shop did and said what was said based on one side of the story. No pics, no real info. Just empty threats and pictures that nobody can see. What harm could possible happen by posting the pictures?

All LLumar Automotive products have >99% UV rejection up to 380nm. Glass itself screens virtually all of the UVB. Adding window film screens UVA and the remainder of UVB. UV rejection % drops somewhere around 21 points by the time you get to 399nm. A car's windscreen and SUV privacy glass reduces UV up to 95% and again, adding film boosts UV screening performance values.

What many don't know or pass on when buying for the purpose you  have stated, is that for those who do have serious UV sensitivity need replace the product every 3-5 years to maintain maximum protective performance from the applied film. Every 3 years in sunny climates and 5 years in moderately sunny climates.

As to verifying the product is the brand you requested, other's here have given good insight.

You can also look for a window tint dealership in your area that owns a EDTM SS2450 meter. This meter can verify the product and glass are in fact reducing the UV to 0-!%. Although, it will require a more sensitive meter to break down nanometer %'s; meters usually specifically designed for and available for sale to UV sufferers.

Eastman bought ST for 2 reasons. First they wanted their PPF technology and 2nd.. They posed to much competition for them. After the purchase they systematically gutted quality control at ST deliberately. Its now the red headed step child of the Eastman portfolio. As others have suggested look at Global. It's a rock solid product.

We've covered this before.....it's not a problem associated with film quality but a problem associated within the physics of applying window film over heater demister lines.
Once any film is applied, the bump on each line of the rear bends the visible light coming through and over it.
This only occurs at night and you can't do anything about it.
You'll also find that with the sides is is not evident because the glass surface is dead smooth.
Dr. Devil and that will be $40 thank you.

if it's legal do it. layering's no big deal. if it's being done with good film on both layers. true there will be no warranty but it's not gonna fail any quicker.

Diablo's Tint reacted to p_tree in How much tint is enough?
Well if you think about it, usually when you get a sample roll @ 36" wide and ten feet in length, then its enough to do an average 4 door care.
Hence roll is 30 sqare feet, so it takes an average of 30 sqare feet to do an average 4 door car.
so if you have a tint Order come in , then you know that your not going to use only the same 36" roll for till its out , so say if you order 3-36"x100' rolls and 3-20"x100' rolls , ... then do the math...3ftx100= 300 sqf per roll (36") now 3x300sf=900sqf, now for the 20" rolls......20"divided by 12"=1.6 ft..then 1.6 ftx 100= 160 sqf per 20"x100' roll... now 160 sqf x 3=480 sqf
    now the final judgment= 900sqf (36"rolls) + 480sqf (20" roll)= 1380 sq ft
so if 30 sqf can do a car, then (1380 sqf divided by 30 sqf per car= 46 cars
so in a nutshell if you order 3-36"x100ft rolls and 3-20"x 100ft rolls, then you have enough to do 46 cars.
    Hope that makes sense

Diablo's Tint reacted to redneckj in XR plus 70%
I installed Xpel XR plus 70% on the windshield of my 4runner today.  I am VERY impressed with the film.  So much so, I wanted to start a post to talk about it.  The film is not  like any other 70%  film that I have ever installed.

The film is thick.  2 mil vs the standard 1.5 mil.  It shrinks very well, actually just like the XR or XR+ films that I have installed before.  The added thickness makes the film install very nice.  The film holds its shape better while reverse rolling it onto the glass.  Actually it is the nicest piece of film that I have ever reverse roll installed.

Clarity. The film is very clear.  During the install, I noticed the film was  super clear.  Usually WS film takes a while to clear up, this film was clear right away.

If you haven't had a chance to try the XR Plus 70% contact your local Xpel rep and order some.

I'll start with this little dandy helper.  It's a magnetic flashlight holder that will save you a hand and give you an easy place to put your spray nozzle, almost anywhere.  Just put some thin felt over the magnet and don't forget to remove it before you close a door or hatch.
