Jkatfelix reacted to FilmTack in Sharing COVID-19 Advisory for Automotive Tinting Facilities
We hope that our window film tinters and loved ones are well amid the COVID-19 outbreak. FilmTack is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all our customers and staff. We have issued face masks to all our staff and increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfection in our premises.

In these challenging times, we have consulted professional medical personnel and prepared the following recommendations for our industry’s automotive tinting facilities:

Provision of face masks for frontline staff who are liaising with customers in person. Use of United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registered disinfectants that are leather/fabric-safe, to disinfect the driver's seat of vehicles before and after tinting. https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/list-n-disinfectants-use-against-sars-cov-2 Enforce simple visitor crowd-management by encouraging pre-bookings to avoid servicing queues. Ideally, customers should return to collect the vehicle at a later stipulated timing and not wait at the Rest-Area. Implement additional safety protocols in showrooms and tinting facilities: Contract-Tracing by registering visitors/customer’s name, contact number, arrival date and time. Provide hand-disinfectants for visitors and customers. Temperature-Taking. Regular disinfection of showroom, especially tint-meter and heat demonstration kits with EPA-registered disinfectants.  Disinfect the tinting bay after each vehicle is completed, with (low-cost) bleach solutions that are suitable for your facility’s floorings. Reduce or avoid off-site automotive tinting. If mobile tinting is demanded by customers, arrange for pick-up services by valets (with relevant insurance coverage). Facilities such as car dealerships with more tinters should consider staggering work shifts as part of internal Business Continuity Management (BCM).
The welfare of our staff and customers are of paramount importance to our industry. The above recommendations are by no means exhaustive. We can all, do our utmost to ensure business continues as usual and safe.

We wish you and your family the very best of health and continued well-being.
    Please be safe.

You can buy the NT stainless blades. IMHO, they are as good as the old blue label Olfa blades.  If your trimming PPF use the NT BD-20000 black carbon 30 degree blades

Never had a problem...once in a blue moon ...we will see a crack edge and tell client before we start. We have had one sunroof crack due to being install too closed to body/glass ...week later after tint but Tesla replace it on warranty and we just retint it on the house after....

Jkatfelix reacted to Tint Eastwood in Flat glass question.
Depends on the type of door, but generally speaking it is not worth it to pull those unless you are doing safety/security film.

Some of the older style can be removed rather easy by pulling the small gasket around the perimeter and the stops will basically fall out. There are some that are much more difficult to remove, requiring you to beat on them with a mallet or flatbar just right to pop the stops loose. Either way most all of them require using a mallet to pound the stops back in place. Also have to deal with the glass being completely loose and wanting to fall inward. I use a suction cup on the outside with a board that goes through the handle and too the frame.

Think in most cases it really doesn't make sense to pull them, but if it's the floppy gaskets that are the problem try bumping with a hard card tucking them back into the frame.

The good will only do sub wrk...When we are slam...we sub out our ppf and tint...They ask for what they are worth and I pay it since we price our service right. Hope your retail or wholesale price can afford them with still making a healthy profit or raise your price.

Dont be that tinter that takes pride in being fast. Most of them cut corners or are full or shiat. Seriously, how can you be that fast if you live on this forum?? Just a bunch or posers.

Here's my  .... From a business owner's standpoint, and while he might not be the owner, he's in charge of tinting... you can't fault him for wanting more then 1 person. Because who knows what might happen to you. You could get sick... get into a car accident, trip while out jogging... who knows. So if you are the only tinter, and something happens, he would be stuck.

As far as the $$$ aspect... you could go to another dealer... or start your own gig. But there's much more to running your own business then just being able to tint. You will be responsible for getting the work, which is the biggest challenge of any business. Certainly it's not impossible - there are plenty of independent shops that are successful. Just don't think all you need to do is put a sign out somewhere and the work will just coming pouring in.

If you look around..there are plenty of installers looking for work as well. But it has been my experience ... that many cases, most have been placed in positions where speed  and high volume tend to override the aspect of quality many places that are hiring seek out. I also believe it is a service that requires a true artist's eye and a careful hand. I think many people lack the willingness and patience to learn. I know , between clear film and tint application..our shop tends to be booked about two weeks out all the time.
