Sounds like a laminated window.  In general you don't heat a laminated glass. Evenly heating can go way farther than a spot heating though.

Just don't get a spot too hot like any piece of glass.

Definitely the Tinter’s fault. If he’s a stand up guy he’ll replace the glass. It happens even to the best of us. I’ll admit it and I’ve replaced a customer glass because I’ve scratched it. Good thing I have a plotter now and that’ll never happen again.

Quite the opposite, it is harder to tint the glass outside of the vehicle.  You have to figure out how to hold the glass in place and be sturdy enough for you to apply pressure.  Then you run a risk of the film being damaged during the installation or them getting adhesive on the film.  Most shops (including us) won't tint glass outside of the vehicle due to these reasons.  Just get the windshield replaced then wait about a week before getting the film applied.

Yeah my first one I failed twice! Then I read a post here that said someone anchors down the middle. No need to shrink the middle area just the humps on the left and right. Don't worry about getting it to where the whole window lays flat. It won't happen as the film will keep popping up. Just get a good shrink in there and should be good to lay

Thanks bro. It looks crazy but he's right leave the middle alone its an inverted curve. shrink the top and bottom sides. when installing start in the middle and work out. that lower hatch window is also inverted no shrinking required.Make sure u have a small turbo and just go to town on it.

It looks like everyone here knows what they are doing when it comes to the TM3. If anyone has any questions about the 3 feel free to contact me. We have tinted around 500 of them.  We tint 3 - 5 of them every singe day and as of right now Oct 23, 2018 we have almost 40 of them on the schedule. If you are in the SoCal area and you want to watch a TM3 get tinted or if you would like to use our TM3 rear window to practice again just give us me a call.

Good to see you figured it out.

I would have encouraged less slip too.

If anyone out there is called upon to install this. Be 100% sure of the orientation of the film install. Use the test card to ensure  ALL locations for install will work with the monitor on the wall.

Due to the differences in orientation on  polarized filters on different monitors and various laptops in use in the "cloaked" room it may or may not work. Encourage the users of the film to confirm it works on the laptops brought into the room BEFORE the "top secret" info is displayed to the rest of the office.

This vid may help to understand how the polarized filters work.

I had stupid issues with Llumar including film separated layers when I tried to pull the liner on some ATR film.  The CTX scratched if you look at it wrong.  I know another guy that is a die hard Llumar fan and he has had lots of issues with it.

I seen one car come back with adhesive failure that had about 5 year old ATR 05 on the rear.  Was a Mazda 626.  I used Film-on the entire time and have every since. I didn't get to cover the guy on warranty as I no longer used Llumar.  I had a relationship with Performance Films still but they would not give my store credit or film to cover the job....

I didn't use Llumar long, 2 years, but when I switched to Global I never looked back.  I could buy 3 40" rolls of Global for the cost of 2 40" Llumar!  No small change.  I also gained 10 to 15 minutes per car as I had less stupid little things to deal with..... $100 an hour makes that 10 to 15 minutes worth more than the film cost difference!

I use global for a few reasons. If you look at tser it competes with all the top more name brand like llumar and 3m. Also zero issues with film as far as failure that I've seen. Lastly minimal haze to it.

smookee408@yahoo.com got a reaction from quality tintz in Any tricks on reverse rolling windshields ???
Here’s how I do a reverse roll on a back glass. Once you’re done shrinking clean the back glass with the pattern on it. Now spray the pattern. This will kill the static. Peel on side and make sure the liner doesn’t fall back on the pattern. This is why cleaning is super important prior to peeling because it can happen. Spray the pattern and repeat on the other side. Now just roll it up and it doesn’t need to be too tight of a roll. Once inside pull your pattern down like 12” then flip the liner over and begin sliding your pattern in place. Unroll it over the backglass. Once you’re near the end peel the liner off completely. This works the same for the front windshield.

I feel exactly the same as you guys. I love Global but it makes my job selling just a bit harder.my tried an true customers take my word for it that Global can complete with the rest of them.  That’s why I’m switching and I’m now a LULU dealer. It’s just gonna be easier to sell.

I got one a couple of months ago. The first one I got was the last one in the Bay Area and it broke during transport before it got to me. Just my luck that one was OEM. My glass guy was able to secure another one for me that was aftermarket but It took a couple of weeks coming from the east coast. It’s Chinese glass but worked as a shrinking mold.

The OEM glass list for $800 dealer employee pricing is like $500.

Good luck bro! I would also like another try at this car again. First time I laid the film front to back and used a combo of the ryk method and normal shrinking to the sides after I trimmed it. I got a feeling that just laying my 60” roll with an anchor straight down the middle and leaving all the excess to pull shrink. It’s a hunch that this method might work better.

The two heat gun method works great. It something about the 200 layers and when u can get even heating it shrinks better and faster. The gun used to blow air under doesn’t have to be on high heat. The lower setting works good.

I use the snap method on side roll ups. Hang the pattern upside down on the peel board and lock it down, either pull it from the center of the peel board or start from one end going to the other just lifting the film off the board a few inches and shrink it from one side to the other

Take the point of a razor blade or razor knife and rub it in a small area at the top corner to see if the surface scratches.

My suspicion is there is a light tint on the windscreen that had a visor strip piggy-backed to it. When the strip was removed it may have taken the scratch coat off, which contained coloring (dyed or pigmented scratch coat).

I’m confused about you post aswell. I started at the dealership as a Tinter. That was my way in the door. They started me at a low hourly wage but I didn’t care because I knew where I wanted to be and that I was going to get there. I came into there knowing that I wasn’t going to give them no choice and they had to make me a tech. In less then a years time I got a 40% increase in pay and now I’m union with all the perks and benefits. I worked hard and help everyone out and was a star employee. You see I never finished college and I did go to tech school but I never finished either. Being a journeyman tech is always something I wanted to see to completion. They pay for my schooling/training and certifications. I get paid for lunch travel and while I’m in school. In the meantime I run my tint business on the weekends. Yes I work 7 days a week. I’ll tint five cars every weekend with one  employee I’ve hired and I’m always booked several weekends out consistently. I’ve already got one high income skill and that’s tinting. I’m developing my second high income skill. My boss has plans to eventually phase me out as a Tinter and become a Tech only. Honestly I love what I’m doing now. My boss and work environment is awesome.  Whytint you sound like you’re your own problem. It doesn’t matter whatever you do you have to put in 💯. Really who cares what others techs think. When I first started the other techs didn’t respect my line of work but i feel that was my predecessor fault. He was a hack that got fired. Now it’s kinda funny they all say what are you still doing here you should go full time with your business.
