I bought a 48" roll of Dinoc carbon fiber almost 2 years ago. Installed on the occasional job here and there and I'm almost out now. I was wondering if anyone has any hands-on experience with other carbon fiber products out there that are NOT made by Dinoc? I understand that 3M owns Dinoc, but they also have been making a slightly thinner carbon fiber film that may work better with intricate installs. Supplier, and comparisons? Thanks.

If I remember correctly it was Tyler and Brandon. They are from the engineering side of things. Both very nice. They brought some PPF with a new adhesive they are doing research on. I guess they said some people have complained of peal back after install with the film. The new stuff is just a lot tackier. I did a 03 accord bumper in black while they were their. It was from a body shop with crappy paint so it may have been a little more tacky from the paint surface also. I used xpel gel as I do most of the time.I have not had any problems with the currant film, and would like to see it stay the same. The trial film was just a little to much and marked to easy. But it was n…

Hi guys, long time no posting.. I've been BUSY!! (Sorry for hazy pics... Need to remember to clean camera lens before taking pics...) I took care of this Panamera for one of my regular customers a few weeks ago. Most tricky hood ever! I had to get a large sheet of matte finish PPF for the hood, but it was sold out nationwide at the two biggest distributors at the time. I got this from Pestige. ($$$ OMG) (This was JUST before Suntek began shipping their Matte film... grrr) Coverage: Full front end, Full rear bumper, Rockers, and other bits & pieces...

Which PPF would you choose for your own cars? 1 2

Hi all, I'm thinking about getting a PPF installed, but my problem is I don't know which film I should have my installer use. It seems like the most popular among consumers is the 3M PPF and XPEL Ultimate, with the XU apparently being self-healing and not orange-peely like the 3M supposedly is. I hadn't heard of Avery until I found this forum. I'm looking for the "best" all around film. Attributes in rough order of importance are: protection, durability/long-lasting, and invisibility. I also don't want a film that will break the bank or that will have to be removed and reapplied fairly often. Anyway I thought it might help to ask you guys: if you had to choose a film f…

just wondering if anyone has tried to vacuum form oracle 8300 on tail lights? or if you think that would even work. Seems like it would be a lot faster and easier instead of heating and working the film around with a heat gun.

Does anyone use this stuff? I noticed we never mention it in the comparison of different films? I for one think they need to completely redo their product. The top coat is great, but you almost NEED a steamer to stretch it on bumpers. Just curious

So I have a job comming up, 2013 BMW 335xi sport line. My customer wants to do the whole hood, not a partial like normal. I use Suntek's coated PPF, precut patterns using TruCut. I'm sure that we can do it, I would just like to see if there's any tips you PPF pro's could share. I've used xpel gel before, but really didn't like it. If I tried to reposition after squeegeing out even the slightest it would leave lines under the film from where I pulled it back up to. So I mainly just use baby shampoo. About 2 small drops in a standard zep trigger spray bottle. I was thinkning about using a slipperier solution (5 drops) for initial lay down, then flushing out around the edg…

I recently was on a work site that uses Dura Shield and had never heard of or used it before. Now I'm glad that I got to work with it. I have used a lot of films over the years such as clearshield, xpel, venture and 3m. All will leave ghosting and lines when pulled back to reposition. So far I'm very impressed with the stretch of the film and how optically clear the film is. If you get a chance I would recommend trying it.

Has anyone had success with sealing car paint with a sealant or polymer coating when comes time to remove or replace? I don't mean months down the road you have the PPF come up easily, I am talking about long term sun exposed. 5 years down the road this stuff can be baked on and lose its pliability to the point of breaking in pieces during removal. Does coating the paint before an install help in releasing the PPF from the paint?

I installed those factory 'zero emissions' decals on the side rocker panels of a Nissan Leaf. I took all the measurements of a factory installed decals and applied it. Came out perfect. Now the customer wants the decals placed lower, at the very bottom of the door. My question is how to remove the decals to install a new set lower. I've tinted for 23 years so I know how to remove tint. TY Monique

Well I decided to try my had at installing some PPF on my wifes new car. Since I am going to move into doing this for customers I thought I would try my hand on my wifes car first and see how I liked it and how easy or hard it is to install. Well I have to say it wasn't too bad. The pre-cut kit is from 3M I did the hood, bumper, lights and mirrors. However, the front grill part was wrong and the fenders weren't correct either. I'll have to call the distributor and see what's up. Since it's a '13 and the '12 is no different I ordered the '12. Let me know what you guys think. Comments good or bad are appreciated. Here are some pics: Here's where I wasn't sure what to…

2010 land cruiser pattern
by Guest nima- 1 reply

I have got ComputerCut and TintTek 20/20. Only ComputerCut has Toyota Land Cruiser 2010 &2011 PPF patterns but they don't have the headlights. Their bumper pattern is also different from the models in Dubai. They didn't even cut out the sensors in the bumper. Does anyone know where I can get the PPf patterns for land cruiser model used in Dubai and the Phillipines car? Is there a software company that only sells patterns that we require? I would really appreciate if anyone could help me out.

Hey Gang, Just gonna keep the initial details to a minimum, but out of curiosity (only b/c we're brand new to vehicle wraps...as opposed to years and years of tint/ppf), does anybody have a general idea of how to measure film requirements for a given vehicle, general time to install (for an average installer team of 2) and what normal retail pricing in the Northeast (Philly burbs area) would go for? We've done a bit of partial (I.e. wings, hood) wraps before but now, I have a kid interested in wrapping his '89 Mustang in matte black. It'd be the first full wrap we did and while I have no intents on charging him full price b/c it's a learning experience, I'm just curiou…

I had 3M Scotchgard paint protection film put on a Touareg today. I expected the film to have clean coverage and edges that followed the contour of the mirrors and front bumper, which is where I had it installed. There wasn't much opportunity to look at the job closely at the shop, so I started looking it over tonight and am surprised to see gaps. Please see the pictures below. Are my expectations off or should I be heading back to the shop? Thanks for your feedback!

Hey guys, just getting into the ppf world. I've been using Suntek film with the suntek patterns. Last install I did was on a mazdaspeed 3, partial hood, fenders, mirrors, and bumper. It didn't seem to me like the pattern was very good, it was really difficult for the tow hook to be lined up while keeping the rest of it in place, and the hood edge wasn't even close. So two questions; Do most of you tuck the film under the hood? If so, how on earth do you make it stick well? Second, is there something I'm missing with the patterns? Do you have to strech the crap out of them or something for them to fit right? I haveo nly ever used the patterns a couple of times be…

Hi everyone, I just joined the forum, but I grew up in the automotive industry and I've been doing graphics and sign making for about 4 years now. I know everyone's still catching up from SEMA, but I have a request for assistance. I'm trying to find the best film for a little mad science project, and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to send me some scraps of their TPU films? Right now, the only film I know that works is 3m 848 series, I suspect that VentureShield 564 series will work, XPel standard is too stretchy, and retail PPF is mostly PVC. Once I find one or a few brands that work, I wouldn't mind setting up a regular agreement. I need aliphatic TPU pi…
