2004 Celica
by Guest socalkid- 3 replies

I trying to quote a customer on his '04 Celica. He's telling me that he has the HID option and that the headlights are slightly larger. We're going to do an xpel kit and it's only showing 1 part # for that year. And I can't find anything on the net that mentions anything about the headlight sizes. **side note, it's showing the bumper rated at 5 stars for difficulty, any thoughts?

to bulk or not to bulk...? 1 2

hello all its been a while since I joined in on tintdude, just spotted the ppf forum back up and running, great to see it. heres my situation. I've run for a while with pre cut kits, ready cut from a supplier, and have also tried my hand at bulk which seems to be a much better fit, etc. where I am based there is very little knowledge of ppf let alone many at it, but along with tinting at dealerships I am begining to get the interest going again, as I backed away for approx. 12 months to concentrate on tint and vehicle wraps. im ready to go full launch this time around, strike while the iron is hot and so on, but not keen on waiting for kits to arrive from supplier and …

ppf installer checking out options

I live in Oregon rite now and work for someone I'm not proud of working for. I'm an upright person looking for a company that isn't willing to sacrifice integrity for the almighty buck. I've been installing for two years and am fairly well known around portland for my quality. I install bulk because you can design a better kit free hand than you can buy. I've been considering opening my own shop here but the guy I work for is underhanded and willing to go after me in court if I do. I know I would win, but it could riuin me for a small business. So, I'm looking to see what the scene is like in other states. I'm tired of the rain anyway and wouldn't mind a warmer c…

question for you ppf's

I have gotten an unusual request to apply some type of protective film to some glazing that will be exposed to coastal conditions I.E northeaster's, windblown sand ,salt spray etc. I will be qouting 7 mil ag film but while working up the estimate it dawned on me that PPF may have a greater life span :asshat: the panels will be 3'-8" X 7,-6" would PPf be a difficult install? we would be working off of ladders or scaffolding too. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

applying bumper

how's everyone applying their bumpers kits. Are you tacking it on one end and rolling it accross the bumper or do you set it on a table and peeling it off the liner then apply it?

Different schools of thought

I know we all come from different training backgrounds. There are a few standard techniques that we all have in common. How do you apply the bumper film from a pre cut kit. do you temp tack it to the bumper then unroll it or do you peel it off the liner from a table and try to mount a sometimes overwhelming piece? And does anyone require a second hand if you do it from the table?

I have been doing Tint and alarms but want to get out of alarms and switch to paint protection . I do a few dealer who have been requesting it ( mostly toyota honda) . But everytime I think of doing it I look at bumpers and thier curves and a get scared off. I have been tinting for over 10 years so I am not sure if the learning curve would be easier. First of all is it worth getting in to it ? Are there people willing to pay for it or is it so time consuming its not worth it in the end . Its like doing tint graphics you might charge some more but the time to do it isnt worth it . One thing is my shop is in a middle class area so not too many porsches or high end merc…

Still thinking of getting into ppf but still concerned about the time since I only have 2 bays and we are pretty busy doing tint . Is it possible for 2 people to do an install each doing a side . Tha same way two people do a tint on a car cutting the time in half. Would this work for ppf in cutting down the time on the install? taking a 1 day course from solarguard next week.

I was at my favorite Porsche dealer the other day to check in, and saw a NEW black 911 parked and stepped up to see if it has film on it (so I could sell it to him). But to my dissmay, it was already done! hmmm. This was a nice one with the carbon brakes, and 19" 3 piece wheels, so figure $100g's... then I almost choaked!! this had to be the worst install of PPF I have ever seen. Using a pre-cut, but looked like a 3-year old cut it out by hand BEFORE they put it on the car. WOW. All I had was my carema phone, so I hope you all can see it. This kills me, b/c thats what a lot of people associate with this product. But then it make me feel that much better about my skills!

ive done a couple ppf installs on a bmw, couple trucks and another car. they were all with kits though. my question is ... when doing bulk installs, do you use your olfa to cut the pattern after its all installed? ive been reading up on here about doing it bulk rather than kits and it makes sense but for me, I do maybe 3 a year. its not big at all around here but I want to get into it more with dealerships especially. also, when getting a "sample" from somewhere, do they give you enough to do a bumper, hood, mirrors and headlights or jsut enough to play with on something random? ive got an 04 Neon R/T that wants some ppf. its actually my cousin and he works at the …

Ok guy's, I'm a clean cut super friendly guy with my logo on a nice polo shirt, looking very professinal, but every time I approch a new car sales manager to talk about paint protection film and hand them my card and a 3m ppf info, they pertty much say thank you, and practicly walk away.... WTF? The Porsche sales manager is (after a few visits) starting to be friendly and says they have had some bad experiances with the guy they are using now but he still hurrys off most of time............. I heard the the new and improved LLumar PPF is out. No more cap sheet and the distortion problem has been solved. We have been useing 3M PPF without any problems. It's just that 3M has a five year warranty and LLumar's is a lifetime. Has anyone used the LLumar's latest PPF?

Hi guys. I have thought about getting into PPF installations in the past, being a window tinting company but never made the move to take it on. I had a friend of mine come to me today with his Lotus Elise and some pre cut PPF from 3M for his rear wheel arches. They were supposed to be pre cut to fit but were miles away so with some marking a trimming we got a good fit and they went on pretty easy. He was very happy. I'm seriously thinking of getting into it full time but have a few questions. We applied this 3M film with just a soapy water, are all films like that these days because we saw a demo day about 3 years ago where it was being applied with some sort of alcoh…

Okay I used new updated VentureSheild. I am having a prob with hazing just like a cold weather install on window film. Is this norm? Also after squeegeing and letting it sit in the sun, after about 1.5-2 hours I get water bubbles 2-3 on a bumper is that normal? I am using 8-10 drops of soap and a capful of 70% Isopropyl and the rest water. I squegee very heavy. Venture shield PPf. Alcohol to prep the paint surface and to also "cure" the film. I am sure that the Haze is in the adhesive not the top coat. Any help is much appreciated
