09 Jaguar XF and a few other installs
by Guest Josh @ Proform- 3 replies

Cake The red vett had paint damage on its one-off custom hood so we choose to hand cut it rather than risk damaging the paint further during the design process. This customer said, after see the installation, if he knew it would look this good he would have opt for the full hood and fenders. Maybe next time. Smart car with full hood, full fenders, bumper and headlights.... believe it or not this vehicle gave me more of a headache do design than anything I have done in a long time. In fact I wound up make several different fenders so people can have the option of a fender with a seam (2 piece) or one with a relief cut. I choose the two piece because i…

where to buy ppf film and patterns
by Guest hmsis250- 6 replies
- 2.2k views
Hi, I'm new to this forum and need some help or guidance. I'm not a dealer or nor do I own my own business yet. I'm a work out of my garage kinda a guy on the weekends. I've been doing a lot of research on ppf and it is something I really would like to get into as a business of my own along with tint and 12volt stuff. I have an opportunity to buy a graphtec plotter at a good price for what im looking to do. I know ppf installing is harder than it really looks, just as tinting is at first. Is there a place I can buy patterns and film from without being a dealer or owning my own business? I see that invisible patterns has software downloads, but do they only sell to …

Classic Venture Shield vs. ClearCoat Venture
by Guest Ona- 9 replies
- 1.6k views
Which one do you prefer to use, the 'old' Venture Shield or the new Clear Coat? Both seem to have problems, the old one has had a lot of marks in the glue, etc, and the new one gets a mark even from a rubber squegee. It's not very nice to have a white, ugly glue mark on a hood of a Ferrari or a 'nice' scratch...

PPF installation skills vs. tint installation skills 1 2 3 4
by Guest clint4883- 30 replies

I have been tinting windows for about 6 years. I opened a shop this year and have been thinking of a service that I can add maybe in a few months to go along with the window tinting. Is it hard to make the transition between PPF and window tint installation? I have been watching some videos but that can fool you. I get people all the time coming telling me that tinting looks easy and they can do it. LOL. I love those cause I can always get more money out of them when they bring it back with some wal-mart s@#t I have to R&R. A experinced installer can make anything look easy. Any suggestions?

Who's done full Kits?
by Guest socalkid- 5 replies
- 1.2k views
Have a customer with an 2008 Infiniti M35 and they wanted to get the full hood and fenders Kit. I've done his buddy's M35 with the standard kit and it seems to be doing it's job but he's not convinced that it will be enough coverage. Never done any pieces that big yet. Maybe the bulk guys can call this one. Any tips and what's fair for labor? There's another shop locally that has the experience to do it but since I've tinted it's windows before, the owner is will to give me the biz instead.

Best wax type (not brand) for consumers to use? 1 2
by Guest darkdan- 10 replies

I've heard carnauba wax is good. I've heard carnauba wax is bad. I've heard the same about cleaner waxes. So far the new "synthetic" waxes haven't had time to develop a bad reputation. What's the best type of wax for consumers to use to help maintain their PPF (even though we've established that wax or no wax, garage or no garage, etc etc etc will still not prevent it from wearing out)?

Body Shop Friendly?
by Guest socalkid- 9 replies
- 1.7k views
Not sure if you guys ever done jobs at body shops but I was doing a Lexus GS 430 that got into a fender bender and needed the bumper piece replaced and I was using goo gone to get some of the left over adhesive off and this body guy started freaking out and asking me if the goo gone was body shop friendly. He grabbed the bottle from me and stared at the label for about 5 minutes. Well he couldn't figure it out but he gave me a few ounces of wax degreaser which worked out pretty good. I swear this dude was about to get the beatin of his life if he didn't have a substitute. He rambled on about certain chemicals clashing ( via airborne) and causing fish eyes and pits i…

PPF Florida 1 2
by Guest kilodawg- 15 replies

Hi first post... I'm looking for a good installer in Florida. I recently acquired a 1988 Porsche factory slantnose, all original and want to get the front covered. I don't think there are any standard kits for it. So I need an installer who is top notch and can take on a custom install (full hood) etc. Any suggestions? I'm on the east coast Cocoa Beach area but will gladly take it to the right installer... Thanks!

This may be a bit edgy for my first post but I, and I'm sure most other folks, are tired of the miss-information that has run a muck in the PPF industry. On a different forum I read this posted by Brett from Venture concerning the Xpel film and Avery: "On the contrary mate; we have a laboratory with extensive analysis capabilities. We have confirmed, with a 99.9% match, that the new X-Pel film is an Avery urethane, an Avery adhesive, with an Avery topcoat. Why do you think Avery was not exhibitng PPF at this years' SEMA show?" What I just do not understand is Avery was at SEMA in fact your booth was a few spots over from the Avery booth, which had a black Ferrari. I …

it doesn't tack up quite as much as I would like with alcohol but it's not bad. but I have to admit the stuff is extrememly clear. in the second pic you can see the line on hood and see the reflection of the light above. no difference, no orange peel appearance at all. very nice lookin' stuff. I did the hood, bumper, quarter panels.
