Ok, here is the thing....I just got an 8' X 5.5' piece of tempered glass 1/4" thick to use as a stand. My cousin married this guy that owns a glass company, so I actually got two of these things for free. Oh, and they are actually going to start sending me customers because I guess people go in there all the time asking about tint. Anyways, back to the topic. I need to make some sort of frame for these things because they are pretty large and I don't want them to shatter when I lean them against the wall and put pressure on them. Does anyone have any Ideas on what would be the best way possible? Thanks in advance. Nick

during the slow winter times stock up on food in your shop to cut down on ordering fast food everyday. here at my shop we have a gang load of coldcuts for sandwhiches, pizzas, burritos, corndogs, and a bunch of top ramen and other soups. all of this costs pennies compared to $6 for a combo for each of the workers. nothing hits the spot on a cold day like cup o noodle

Hi, everyone!!! I really need some help, I own a tint shop believe it or not and I have only been tinting for about 9 months, I started this shop on a wing and a prayer, not really having a clue about tinting. I worked as a tech in a new car dealership for about 8 years before I quit to start my own business. I came up with the idea to start tinting after my wife took my truck almost 2 hours away from where we live to have it tinted for me for valentine's day last year, and then within a month took her new car to have it done also, and both of them were close to $200 bucks each. I got to thinkin that if she is willing to drive that far and pay that much there must be a …

sealing edges of skylight 1 2

OK I'm stumped. We did a large angled skylight (80 feet by 20 feet tall in multiple panels) in a exterior Kynar film and now the "shiat" is rolling back. Thought we did everything right including sealing the edges with a factory sealer we use on our spectra selective products. Any recommendations for a sealer outside of just cementing the whole thing over. It doesn't even have to be that clean as you cant see the edges from inside. Da Mayor

You seem to be the golf authority on this site, so I figured I throw a quick question your way. I'm looking at new clubs, and was wondering on the shaft differences. I need a regular flex shaft, so a steel shaft will be what I'm in the market for, but what's the difference betwee the appollo steel shafts and the true temper shafts? The appollo steel shafts are a good amount cheaper, but I don't want something that's going to be crap in a couple years. I usually replace my golf set every 6 or 7 years, but I've never really researched them much before buying. These clubs are being custom tailored to my height, swing speed and all, but when ordering off the net it's a l…

Hello, I just wanted to say hi! Im pretty new to window tinting. I have done it on and off for a few years now. I recently got in the business of decals, truck lettering, and body graphics. I decided I needed another money maker, so tint is the choice I made. I am still looking around for a good templet cutting program that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg. I already have a 24" cutter. I don't know If I can even use that with a cutting program. I may have to upgrad to a 60" which I was planning on doing anyways in the near future. Does anyone know what is the best program to go with? Also, I found a supplier for $60 for a 20'X100' roll. Is that a good price? Fina…

Well, today I got the break I've been waiting for , I got the tinting job at the company in my sig. They do quite a bit of business and I think it will be a really good place to work. Check out the website and if anyone is in the area needing some tinting or just about anything automotive feel free to stop in.

Is there an easier way to do this?
by Guest Key West- 7 replies

Had a slight problem with the doors on this project. Seems that the vertical(sides) glass retention stops will just fall out when the gasket is removed. We tried to put the gasket back, but alas, we are NOT glazers . So we "glued" the stops back in place with D/C995, then masked and caulked. Used ALOT of 995 filling in the gap between the glass and the stop. It worked and I'm sure that its strong, but is there a more efficient way to do this? Anyone else run into this? We tried to fill the gap with cut down gasket, but it fell right out . Anyway, thanks all.

Hello everyone!!! I'm new to the site and I think I can get a little bit of advice from some people here since I'm having trouble making a decision on my own. I am by know means a professional, but for the three cars I've previously owned I've tinted myself. An '84 camaro, an '87 olds cutlass, and a '96 camaro... Recently I bought my first "brand new" car, a black Mazda 3 wagon, and I know this car would look damn good with the windows blacked out. I'm undecided which way I should go though, on my other cars they were all preowned and I didn't really care for a "professional" job, but on a new car, maybe I should just drop the extra cash and get it done by som…

Why does this Charcool look brown? 1 2 3 4
by Guest dman777- 36 replies
- 5.3k views
I have been a tinter for 5 years and my shop has always used Johnson and Madico films. I just recently bought a 1987 Volvo 240. My favorite tint is Onyx, even though it is considered black it always has had a blue color to it. But, my shop stop carrying Onyx and so I tinted my volvo with Charcool instead. My car windows are not smoked, so they have no color whatsover to influence the tint color. Dude, it is me or is this tint have a brown hue in it? The tint is supposed to be considered grey, but when I look at it in the day....especially through the 5 percent on the back window.... it looks brown to me. Is it just me or does Charcool have a brown/bronze color to it?

Quality of construction 1 2

Is it just me or are any of you seeing the overall quality of residential construction going down ? we do a lot of work in new and even NEVER lived in houses and were seeing a lot (much more anyway) Pizz poor detail work yet let Harry or Harriet home owner find a speck or something along an edge and it seems we are held to a higher standard. My policy has always been if I don't like it the customer won't either so I launch the film and do it again within reason. But Daaaayum we did a brand new house today and three of the freaking windows were so out of square the wouldn't close tight enough to lock I'm a contractor too and take pride in whatever I do and there are …

anyone still do this 1 2 3
by Guest keepitcool- 20 replies

ok so im bidding against this guy here and his big selling point and reasoning why he charges so much is because he takes out the seals and installs the film all the way to the edge of the glass he says to" avoid glass breakage problems by eliminating the gap of clear glass around the edge so that there isnt a difference in heat retention in the window" and also so there is no " ugly gap" around the edge. sooooooo what do you do on a wood framed window??? take a sawsall to it?this is the kind of @#$% I have to deal w/ here. along w/ some dumbass old man selling v$sta film for 2$ a square and under.

First and foremost, hello to all, obviously I'm new here, and pretty new at tinting. I've done a few cars and they came out pretty well (using solar gard hp charcoal 38). Anyway, I'm gettin off track here...I tint on weekends or whenever I have time; we own a NAPA store and up the street is our NAPA Autocare Center. Pretty good friends with the owner and his family, and his oldest daughter wants me to tint her Lumina's windows (doin it Saturday). She had a friend of a friend do her rear door windows (thats as far as he made it). Don't get the wrong idea, I'm not bashing the guy, tinting isn't easy, but this is great. He got his Wal-Mart (or NAPA lol) Gila 5% tint, rolled …

Hey, guys! My name is Nick, I own Shorty's Graphics in Tampa, Fl. I have 6 years of sign/vinyl/graphic design experience, with a one year stint as an asssistant to a tinter. I haven't done this in a long time, but a number of customers need it and I'd like to get back in. My question is, the guy I worked for sized his tint with an exact-o knife. Does anyone use templates to pre-cut tint, and if so, what percentage of people? Is it worth it? Thanks! -Nick

Ok Im not sure which forum I should put this in, so if it is in the wrong place, mods could you please move it to the proper spot? Now before I even start with my question, I already know most people are going to say leave up to the pro's, its not worth the money and BLAH BLAH, but honestly I would rather do it myself, instead of bringing to the someone else. I dont know, I just have this thing were I would rather screw up and learn something out of it, rather than not do it and not learn anything. Ok so here it goes I have a 2004 Tiburon and I want to tint my windows. Now I have been doing some research on it and all, and got all kinds of info. So I guess my question i…

I was told it would take 3-4 hours and everything was precut and I wouldnt have to cut anything. Well every word that was precut wasnt cut deep enuff and had to be cut out again and 2 of the peices were to long and had to be trimmed, so 10 hours later at 3:30 were leaving and I didnt get home till 4:30am and then get up at 6:30 to take the littleone to school and im heading out the door now to go on a 650sq residential. Digital camera 1 2

Just out of curiousity, before I have to go to the store where I bought the thing, does any one know anything about digital cameras. I have an HP Photosmart M22 camera and the other day I was taking some pictures of this building we finished and it was on and I was about to take a picture when my finger hit the battery door and it opened and the camera turned off and I cant get it to turn on again. What the hell is going on? I put new batteries in it and checked that and nothing. Pulled out the extra memory and tried to turn it on and nothing. Anyone got any suggestions?
