I did my first full vinyl wrap using kmpf and I found it extremely difficult Im a ppf and window film guy but a friend purchased a truck and wanted it done so I said I would try it. I can wrap a vehicle with ppf with minimal troubles...this job was the opposite. He was happy with the results but I was not. I pictured it being a bit easier with some heat and stretching but found myself using the heat gun all the time and stretching the film even on pieces that were quite flat with minimal contour. I used 150 micron kpmf vinyl. The question I have is did I select a good quality film and thickness? This stuff was extremely tacky so once it made contact with paint pulling…

I'm not sure if I've bought the correct knifeless tape. I have the finish line tape, and after overlapping the vinyl, the cut shows, and is a little crooked. What is the difference between design line and finish line? Also, what do you guys use/do to make overlapping cuts?

Alright, so recently I purchased a vvivid8 black chrome vinyl, and I've had some trouble installing it on my 2008 bmw 525i on sharp corners. I'll use the mirrors as an example. My mirrors have sharp, 70°+ edges, and I always end up with wrinkles that I just can't get out. The most I've ever covered on my mirror without issues is the face and two sides. The way I apply it is by using no heat on the face, and light to medium heat with stretching around the corners. As soon as I see wrinkles that I can't get out by stretching, I'll add more heat, but that just makes them worse. I've also tried wrapping the sides of the mirror with a seperate piece of vinyl and then making a …

Hi dudes and gals. You guys have no idea how excited i got when i discovered/remembered that i can cover my entire car rather then color match with paint. Iv'e got myself a e36 m3 which i love, car is 20 years old and you can guess the kind of shape the paint is in. I have a mismatched door that with paint, alone would cost 1500 to match with the panels. I will post pictures tmrw. As you guessed the question, if the door is not the same exact code as the rest of the body, how will that fare once the vinyl is lade over it. The car is cosmos black and i plan on doing something as close too Avus Blue as i can. Thanks

Wrapping car with sand marks?
by Guest njjawn- 6 replies

Hey everyone, Lets start off by saying I'm an amateur when it comes to vehicle Wrapping. The car I have to wrap had a bad maaco paint job. There's no chips or deep scratches, but the car was sanded too deep when it was prepped for paint. You can see the sand marks in the paint, but you can't feel them. From my limited experience, I don't forsee this as being a problem, but I just wanted to check before moving foward. Thanks

Wrap Designer in New England
by Guest Thirteen- 0 replies

This may not be possible. I am looking to have a wrap designed to show a car was in accident. Probably sides and back. As an advertisement, of course. I don't know if this is possible. I need a person in New England or New York as that is about as far as I can reasonably get the cars. I have seen wraps of people on toilets and beach scenes so I am thinking maybe somebody is this good.

So just wanted to throw this out there, I've notice no one in the vinyl wrap industry makes a good display showing all the available colors and finishes, and since we are in the graphic design and sign industry it wouldn't be hard for us to produce these types of displays. Does anyone have any input on what they look for in a display? Here's what I know I'd want- 1 for each brand (Avery, 3M, Arlon to start with) Wall mount Uses actual vinyl as the color swatch What else would you want in a display?

Anyone have any luck with high heat vinyl application? IKON wraps sent me some samples of film that people have apparently wrapped calipers with and it has held up to the heat. I am looking to wrap a set of my wheels and was just curious on its longevity or anyone elses experience with this. Thank you!

looking for small custom wrap motorcycle tail section
by Guest yak600- 3 replies

New to the forum. Lot of great information here. Seems like great people as well. Did some searching to try to find the answer to my question but didn't see anything. Basically I have Ninja 636 motorcycle that I was trying to get the tail section/fender wrapped. Any kind of design with just some custom logos that I have on it. Not sure if there is someone out there that can print out two pieces of vinyl and then I can wrap it myself. Anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Hi all, Ok, usually I am the first to dismiss the cheaper films but recently I have been thinking whether I should offer a lesser quality wrap film to lower prices for people that cant afford the bees knees. Much like the tint world where there is always a cheaper option and the chance to upsell. The reason I am thinking of this is my area has a lower average car price, this means they are less likely to spend that extra money on a wrap. Not an issue if you live in cities with lots of high class cars/ super cars. We get a lot of requests but not bites from those with 'normal priced' cars, I think to myself would they have bitten if I had a cheaper option. I am…

corners on a hood/spoiler
by Guest birdman- 4 replies

so my employer is allowing me to get my feet wet with vinyl install/wrapping. i've gotten into it before but was focused more on signage. i have a camaro to play with and they told me they wanted the hood and spoiler wrapped in matte black (3M 1080 deep matte). i looked all over the place for a few days trying to figure out how to wrap the spoiler in one piece, to no avail. is it possible to wrap the entire spoiler in one piece of vinyl? and what's the secret to getting the corners of the spoiler and the hood/any panel to not get the folds? is primer a MUST? this is really the only thing i've found on it: http://youtu.be/XxH-MUxowyA thanks

Client had his car resprayed and the final outcome was very very very poor quality. My initial thoughts were to sand it down and wrap over it. Fast forward a month, the door paint has pulled back (shrunk) and actually comes off like a flat chunk of cold vinyl (like pulling it off a car and it breaks apart). There are tons of areas with massive solvent pop that shows through the test vinyl, huge clear drips and runs, and areas of trash in/under the paint. Thoughts on my next steps??? Thinking about stripping the paint and laying down a new primer layer, but not sure if the vinyl will stick long term. Should it be recleared properly?

How tough is vinyl wrap?
by Guest J90- 7 replies
- 6.1k views
Hi everyone I need an honest answer. How tough is Vinyl wrap? I have a Range rover L322 and the front and rear bumpers are prone to scratches and scuffs from other peoples inept parking. I'm thinking of putting a colour coded vinyl wrap on the bumpers to protect them. I know I wont get an exact match colour wise but will it protect the bumpers? In fact I have another question. Can you double layer vinyl? Thanks

Hello, I am new to designing wraps and I am working a sprinter van wrap. The whole thing is done in photoshop and at 100% size but need to know what the best resolution would be. If I am at 300 dpi then the file size gets over 10gig. I was wondering what most people design at. Thanks.

wing mirrors

Wing mirrors that are untreated ie not colour coded to the car just black plastic. Do i again wrap straight on it or do i need to glue on it? Its the same material that some cars have ie inserts in the doors and non painted bumpers. A few people are asking and i dont have the knowledge if i should do it. I can wrap no bother just only done it on colour coded cars never ones with the same material as inside the car ie centre console. Hope this makes sense. Thank you all
