Correct me if I'm wrong but, they're dead on identical in terms of gloss, clarity and orange peel- hence the lawsuit. However, the adhesive on the 3M feels stronger, it's tackier. You can't pull as much on the 3M, pull marks/ghosting happens quicker than XPEL, but it doesn't tear as easily as XPEL. Anything else I'm missing?

What do you guys do to prep that paint before PPF? We normally wax the surface on normal paint but you can't do that here. Last week we had one come in and got a partial kit but later decided to go with the full. Removing the 48 hour install left a little adhesive behind and I was afraid to use normal adhesive remover so I just rolled it off with my fingers. But what if a bunch was left behind? I'm just about afraid to ever do another one until I know how removals will be years from now.

So I have been doing a certain high end dealership for about 5 years, and out of the blue this xpel rep stops at my shop and I was out on a commercial job as we do all that too and he talks to one of my employees about switching films to Xpel , we use SunTek and are happy with there product, well a few weeks go by and ive heard through the grape vine that the Xpel rep had gone to one of my competitors in town and set them all up and stole my account, ive been using xpel for years and theses guys are solargard true cut all day and I doubt they pay for both programs, just a shot out there at what Xpel is up to!

Got an Audi A7 coming in for PPF in an hour and I looked through our plotter software to get the patterns pulled up and theres like 10 different trims levels. How am I supposed to figure out which one it is? It doesn't normally say what trim level it is on the little sticker inside the drivers door does it?

It seems as so in my market. Everyone is talking Spray on ppf (like plastic dip process) or ceramic top coats (wax like applications) Seem to be winning. I have never dove strongly into the PPF market but have been doing it for 2-3 years. I am very good at it and would say my installations are top notch. However, my hands and finger joints just get pissed off doing it so I don't push it heavily. But I do enjoy it just not every day because my hands won't let me. What are you guys techniques for combating sales when fronted with these two products listed above. I sell Xpel ultimate and my prices might be considered high for people who only do PPF. I would …

I have installed the matte film on matte paint but not on gloss. I have a customer that wants a full car done to give it a matte paint look. My question is ,can you see gloss on the slight edge of say a relief cut on a bumper or things like that? I will cover and wrap everything I can.Would you say it adds a lot of labor when going over gloss paint with matte? Thinking I will have to pull a lot of parts to get the most seemless install posible.

Looking for PPF trainer for around 3 days + in Thailand to train us and our customers. We have some experience in wrapping small areas such as door cup, door sills, headlights, side mirror etc.. For other large and complex area we would need help from experienced installer, and we would like to be able to do it free hand (not using pre-cut film). If you are in Thailand or coming to Thailand, this would be a great opportunity. If you are in some other places, let's discuss how we could work it out. Please PM some information about yourself, your work and also your daily rate, and we will take it from there. Thanks Ben

We're adding PPF to our service lineup this week. Where would you guys say most of your work comes from? Dealerships? Upsells on detailing or tint? For you shop owners, where do you advertise? Google Adwords doesn't seem to show hardly any searches for PPF so I'm trying facebook ads to start, to see if that peaks any interest. I've gotten very good at reaching my target market on all of our other services (tint, detail, remote start, vinyl etc) and just want to make sure I get a good start on selling this $X,--- investment in PPF material hahaha

Hello everyone, After all, what is the origin of PPF? Some say it was invented for military purposes during the Vietnam War, others say it was during the Gulf War... I would really like to know the true story. Greetings, Farrier

Hi everyone. I just wanted to let the group on here know that we are launching a new technology at SEMA this year. You've got it right, 1 week away and we are excited about it. If you are planning on heading to SEMA this year, please come by the booth #12565. If you want to try a sample, please don't hesitate to contact me directly with your contact info. My email is below in the signature. Here is a little video we did a little while back to showcase some of the qualities of the product. We look forward to the launch and hope you like what we've been working on.

I will be getting XPEL ultimate for my new car and will be using this car for autocross and the occasional track day. Before I get the full frontal of the car PPFed I will send it to the detailer's to get perfect paint. What I was wondering is should I get the paint under the PPF ceramic coated or not? Thanks, Chris

I'm going to spare you the details right now and ask for your professional opinions. The car is a 2016 Shelby GT350. The car was perfect with 150 miles on it at delivery to the shop that did this PPF install. The wrap over the stripes were done in pieces; 5 pieces each on the hood, roof, trunk. EDIT: If you can't zoom into the pictures below, try this link. Hand trimming the film has damaged the stripe and likely the paint underneath. I recognize that this is a good compound curve. I'm willing to let this go. Edge is lifting where I paid extra to have the edges rolled. Debris, and lots of it under the A pillar wrap. There was no reason to use multipl…

Hello guys. Considering that matte painted cars have been on the rise and owners using more ppf, any experiences in what happens when you try to remove the film? There are many ideas of what may happen, but do any of you have real world experience? I have XPEL Stealth on my Designo matte paint, and although it was just installed over the entire car, I'm thinking about the long term. Have PPF which I installed on the front only of my regular glossy painted car back in 2005 which has started to crack. Don't want the same thing to happen across my entire matte car. I'm hoping that the PPF technology has improved over the past 10 years. And yes I did place car polish over …

We're in the market for a plotter, and also the best pattern cutting software. We've gotten samples and precut kits that didn't fit as well as expected. Are complete wrap-around kits more popular these days? We're looking for the best possible cut kits we can do ourselves. Thanks in advance!

Just barely clipped the side of the garage with my side mirror pulling in today and the protective film got a bit roughed up. It's only about 1/3-1/2 inch on the tip of the mirror. It's not peeled up, but sort of scratched/bubbled up. Is there any way to fix it or should I just redo the whole mirror?

These new 2017 have "SUPER DUTY" stamped into the front edge of the hood. I was able to get the film to lay down inside the lettering but it was time consuming compared to previous models. I hate you even more now Ford.

Ever since I got in this business, filming race cars has always been one of my favorite parts. Did most work in exchange for decals on the car and every once in a while I'd get to see my logo on TV. Other benefits were pictures of the car would be used by the other sponsor's promotions so sometimes I never knew where I was getting some exposure....like this die cast model car I saw last night of a car I filmed four years ago!

Anyone having issues with these hoods? I have one I've done twice now and it wants to lift in the valley closest to the middle. The outer valleys are staying down fine. It's frustrating to say the least.

greetings, I was looking at ebay and few other places and it seems pretty expensive at $38 per foot for a 60" wide Xpel Ultimate. 44tools had the best price I could find but they seem to be out of stock for a 60" wide film, and they didn't know when they'll have it in stock. From my rough measurements, I need about 35-40' to cover the entire car. It's my first new car (3 series) so it might be bit of an OCD, but I like learning new things and I already covered front bumper, mirrors and fenders with the precut kit. So anyone have any suggestions where I could buy 60" by the foot for a good price? I might even buy the whole roll if the price is right. Not sure how diff…
