I'm not one to start rumors, but I've heard this from a few different sources, so I gotta know.... Does Xpel plans to cut off their patterns to other-brand film users?... as in "you can only use Xpel patterns if you use Xpel film". If nobody here has heard this, then maybe it's not true, and this thread can be deleted.

Has anyone wrapped the rockers on this? I have done vipers before but mainly full front ends. I have a 1999 Dodge Viper that has old old film on it. The exhaust runs under the rockers and the film is all dark yellow (could be from heat). From the looks of the orange peel, its old 3M Scotchguard. Do you wrap that rocker FULL top and side or do you leave a cut at the top for the exhaust because heat transfer melts film?

I have a 97 993 with the original fender splash guards on it. They are cracking and need to be removed and replaced. Paint is also original and non clear coated porsche red. I know as I've polished this car years ago. The paint is near perfect and we'd like to keep it that way if possible.... I've informed the owner of the risks but would still like to do this the most safe way possible? Is there a trick to dealing with film this old and bad? TIA Josh

Hey guys, Just wanted to shoutout a huge thanks to the guys at PremiumShield for getting the AMG GT-R full-car patterns produced so quick, and GREAT patterns too!!! To anyone that was involved in making the patterns, you did an awesome job! Full car, everything fit just amazing. My client decided to go with a full car Matte PPF, so i was a little concerned about the small natural gap from the edge of panels that is usually acceptable when applying gloss ppf. These patterns fit right to the edges and/or wrapped around for a better finished look, especially for matte PPF. My client was SUPER happy with the results!! I’m sure I’ll see more of h…

Everyone gets a spec or two of dirt/debris in any install, that's a given. Nothing is perfect... What or how are you guys setting up your plotter? Are you using a media catch? Or sweeping the floor prior to plotting and letting it fall on the floor? Using a table to let it run back and forth on? We have been doing the floor option for a while now for most of the installs. We would get a couple dirt specs here and there even after wiping both sides of the film before removing from the liner. But, now that we are bulking everything except bumpers, the installs are cleaner. So the floor option is out the window. I've heard the media…

Hi, We are getting into PPF in September and was wondering if it is worth adding to our existing tint business. What I mean is, can it potentially take over for tint and be more or just as profitable? I really hope it is because the winter months are coming fast here in northern Cali and we are hoping to offset the loss of tint customers with PPF customers. Also is there anything else anyone recommends to add to a tint shop that can help create another revenue stream? We are really trying to stay automotive so no FG on the horizon...yet Just stressing about the coming winter lol.

Ok, time to break out your wish lists. I have a 5m wide by 7m long area with a 2.8m high suspended ceiling in my business unit that is put aside for ppf installs. It currently has a mix of 10 x 45 watt 600x600 led 6000k panels and 12 x old 72 watt 600x600 fluorescent panels in the ceiling with 8 x 6ft fluorescent tubes mounted horizontally on the walls 4 each side with 2 at 1m and 2 at 2.3m. I am currently in the process of re fitting and will be looking to go all led, replacing the ceiling fluorescent panels with led's and wall fluorescent units with 1200mm x 300mm led panels. I fancy painting the walls and ceiling black and am wondering weather to mount the wall led pan…

I have done a hand full of these and cut around the letter. Thought I would try to get them stuck down. Took longer then I thought. Layed the film, them used a syringe in the corner of each letter to let the air escape, and pushed each letter down. Being white helped.

Hello, I have read through these forums for the past two weeks. I am trying to learn ppf installation. My first attempt was on a corvette c6 z06. I attempted to do the front bumper using 3M pro series. I am not sure if its the person I purchased the film from or just bad 3M patterns, but nothing was lining up. corners were flat and straight edges were curved. Needless to say, It was a failure for me. I knew that it was going to be a challenge, but starting the installation, I felt that the battle was over. Round 2. I purchased all the right tools (sprayers, squeegee, blades, etc). This time, I went with suntek utima using DAP patterns. I didn't sta…

I am not in the business but this forum has been the most informative I've seen with PPF and tinting. I'm about to take delivery of a 2018 Porsche Macan S and want to have paint protection film and window tinting done. From all the reading I've done, I've come to the conclusion that all films are created equal given some small nuances, and the secret is finding a great installer. There are several shops that do this type of work in my area, so how do I know who will do the best install for me. What are the questions I need to be asking these shops to help me make my decision? I've read there are special challenges with the Porsche because of the size of the hood and …

Such a beautiful car to work on, I thought I would share some pictures with the community. Sad to see the purchaser only getting a partial frontal installed instead of a full frontal, but sometimes the wealthy are cheap too.

The team at STEK-USA is very excited to bring to you yet another amazing breakthrough in paint protection film. Introducing DYNOcarbon, a matte PPF imprinted with the look and feel of carbon fiber, yet still keeps all the high performance attributes of self healing, hydrophobic, stain resistant, and ease of installation. This is our second film in the fashion film line with the attention getting DYNOprism being the first. I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking but one common question we have heard form a few installers who we already showed this film to was " will it distort when stretched?" I have attached a side mirror picture to show how well it stretches w…

Here's a recent video that we organized with Engineering Explained that was picked up by Road & Track. The video does a pretty decent job of explaining to consumers how much work we all go through as installers to provide them with the finished result! http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/buying-maintenance/a12184664/how-this-magical-self-healing-film-protects-cars-from-scratches/

Here's a neglected non garage parked, never waxed, machine washed, daily driver 04 BMW X5 with Bra over 5 years old. I did install with Suntek 5 years back after removing the old Ventureshield. Looks like after a polish we will leave it on. I'm a firm believer that 98% of waxes are bad news on PPF in general.

Few questions regarding what everyone does pre application for cleaning. Curious to see how many people are giving the paint a complete detail before installing the PPF. By complete detail I mean taking the necessary steps to remove all contaminants, Microfiber swirls/scratches from paint before applying the PPF. At the moment I just power wash, wipe down and clay bar the paint before application. What steps do you guys use to prep for installation? Do you guys charge extra for a complete detail of paint areas getting product or is it factored in for all PPF installations? Thanks

Hi guys, I came across this forum after I've had a Llumar PPF front end install done on my brand new car and noticed some flaws and wanted to see if it's normal or it was a bad install. The car is a new Dodge Challenger and pre-cut kits were used. I noticed on the bumper, the side markers don't match up and, and there's a bigger gap on the pre-cut relief cut on one side than the other. There's also areas where more PPF kits were install where the edges have at least 1/16"-1/8" of space from the leading edge. I understand these are kits but should they be this inconsistent or should the lines all match up? I contacted the installer about my displeasure wit…

All, Have a white 2018 Charger Hellcat on order. Should be here in 2 months from the factory. My installer prefers 3M Pro Series PPF because he has the most experience installing it, but also installs XPEL Ultimate. Same price. Full hood, full fenders, mirrors and door handle cups and Bumper $2200. Rocker Panels an extra $660. Pricing is high I think. This is a white car and I know there have been some concerns in the market on yellowing on white cars for the 3M product but not sure if that is the "new" 3M Pro product or not. They will be following up with Ceramic Pro exterior Gold package over the top. Paint correction 3 layers of 9H on paintw…

So.... Had one of these trucks on my agenda to install some clear shield pro on today.... Everything was breezy until I got to the front portions around the headlights... I'm not sure if I've done anything that kicked my ass more that this... Using the plotter, the massive amounts of relief cuts were ever so slightly out of place... So I move on to attempt a bulk of the area.... Not much better. There are just so many fine cuts to make in such a small area that would not tac for shit. Finally ended up using a damn steamer the mark the fuck out of the film and finally got it to lay. Not happy at all with the install and left my head sagging at the end of the day... S…

Hi, Yesterday I was approached by a markting company that has an interactive game for children in a Led TV, placed in a shopping mall. The screen is getting damaged with scratches and before it gets worse, he asked us to apply paint protection film. My question is that I will not be able to make the application wet because I am afraid of soaking the TV. I think the application gel might be an alternative, but I do not have any supplier in my country that has available for delivery and I can not wait to get it from outside the country. Will the screen cleaning gel be an option or will it have some component incompatible with the paint prot…

STEK-USA Announces Fashion Films – the next step in Paint Protection Film! Until now, car owners who wanted a wrap to create a different look on their cars had to look to custom paint, vinyl wraps, or specialty coatings that offer little to no protection. That is no longer the case, STEK Automotive and STEK-USA are going beyond matte finishes by offering the world’s first prismatic PPF in the form of DYNOprism. DYNOprism is a true PPF in that it holds the same characteristics as our top of the line DYNOshield with high gloss, extreme clarity, self-healing and is hydrophobic all combined with a blue and purple metal flake prismatic effect. This fil…

Hi all, first of all, kudos for the good information that is being exchanged in this forum. It's really helpful for both professionals and amateurs (such as myself). I'll cut to the chase. For reasons that have mostly to do with the overall cost, I decided to order a pre-cut Xpel Ultimate kit for my car and install it myself. Even though it's not a 10/10 job, it turned out quite good, especially if you consider the fact that I've never done such a thing before. I do have two issues, though, on the right side of the bumper with one of the film parts. This was probably a result of being tired and frustrated when working the bumper, with all the …
