Noticed from some videos, pics, and such that some installers are wearing black gloves when installing PPF. Why? What benefit do they have? What kind are they / where do you get them? The only reason I see myself wearing them is to help out my skin from drying up from the iso...

So ive been doing ppf for about a year almost two years now. Can average a car in 4hours from start to finish and work for a shop in chicagoland area. Was wondering what the typical pay rate is for a ppf installer? By the job? If so how much. Hourly? And if so how much?

I currently use Xpel Ultimate and I was recently approached by a client who preferred Solar Gard PPF. (He was not specific about the Clearshield or Clearshield Pro.) I cant find any information on the Solar Gard website that references 'Self Healing' capabilities. Personally, I would not install anything that is not self healing, because it does not make sense to me to use a product that requires replacement just because it has a scratch. After all, you can buff paint, why would you limit yourself because you use PPF. I work with car dealers, so I dont have the option to explain to a client why the scratch is not under warranty. Also, scratch resistant is nic…

So I am finally asking for some advise. My boss want's to start offering PPF for door cups and door edges. We are not looking for pre-cut kits since we have a plotter to cut the film. We are also not looking for cheap, but looking for something with decent longevity, user friendly and at a decent price. As of right now, we are not offering full front protection, just door cups and door edge guards. Any advise on film type and roll sizes will be appreciated. Thank You!

Had a client bring his car in that had PPF applied about 3-4 years ago. Long story short , his detail shop mistakenly removed the film. I noticed while preping it to reinstall that it had many rock dents in the paint on the bumper. It wasnt chipped ,just impressions from rock hits. Is this something others have noticed?

Hi everyone. First post here and I'm hoping someone can provide me some input based on your experience working with various films. I'm looking to have film put on a new car. It's a new vehicle and I'll looking to do the front bumper, full front hood, front fenders, backs of mirrors, full lower rockers and the door sills. I've talked three local shops. All seem decent. Initially I was seeking out XPEL Ultimate based on my research online and reputation (again I've never purchased PPF before). One installer in particular I like and I'm most likely going to book with him soon. He works with the following three films: XPEL Ultimate 3M Scotchguard Pro 2 (…

I'm new to PPF and wondering what is the consensus on blade used for cutting the film, stainless or carbon? I've done some practice on spare panels with both and so far prefer carbon. Carbon is definitely sharper and I've cut through a few times, but I feel more comfortable with it so far because stainless just doesn't seem to cut it enough. This forces me to push it a little more and I fear I will cut through with pretty good pressure, whereas with carbon it seems like just lightly scoring the film makes it easy to separate. In any case, just wanted to get some thoughts from the experience pros on here while I keep practicing. Thanks

So here is a strange one. Does anyone see any issues with PPF on a glass panoramic roof? I know there are glass specific films such as clearplex that are designed for wiper blades but would there be any issues putting PPF (in particular Xpel Ultimate) on a glass roof to protect it from possible hail divets, staining, scratching etc? Just don't want it to compromise the strength of the glass upon removal or worse break or shatter upon removal. Thoughts?

Wide body is the trend no doubt. I've been getting calls from a members of the RWB owners club regarding PPF installation. Anyone with experience with RWB or LibertyWalk care to share how to tackle to those ridiculous wide fenders and rear quarters.

Hey guys, new to this forum but have been reading and as someone with no one to go to it looks perfect, I have been tinting for a few years but about a month or two ago I went to California to get PPF training, I do mostly 2014-2015 Mercedes, I have had a problem getting the hood to fit on almost every model besides an E350, it's taking hours to get it right on all of the vehicles and driving me crazy! The bottom corners where it curved down around and over the headlights is killing me, I could use help! And advice for the rest of the cars!

so as of late I have been using mainly 60" rolls and cutting them for all applications. Im now thinking of bulking most hoods with a 60", and buying another roll for the bumpers and fenders. question is, do I get the 36 or the 48" x 100'? Which would serve me better, and save the most money per application?

Hi everyone, My name is Benjamin Nussbaum I am co Owner of Metropolitan Detail in Bellevue washington. I have been installing film since 2006 and currently use XPEL since 2011. Been through all the changes with xpel as they designed Ultimate and still feel XPEL is the finest out there. I have been asked why I'm not a member of tint dude and why I am not in the PPF section. I just didn't feel that The forums were for me. At my shop we do a lot of full car wraps and full panels without seams, that others seam. So thats a bit about me and why I joined, basically I was asked one to many times why I wasn't on here, so here I am. Benjamin

Hey Everybody, My name is Brian Martin. I very excited to be joining you guys in the world of PPF. Most of you know and love Norm Schilling at Invisibra in Dallas Texas... well, he has decided to take early retirement and pass the torch along to me. Realizing I was stepping into some big shoes Norm agreed to hang around for 2 more months and give me over 300 hours of training in his jedi ways. The training will conclude when I can snatch the carbon blade out of his hand without scratching the paint, lol. I am confident I can maintain Norm's level of excellence, although probably at the expense of my time and film though:). I am excited to be joining such a tight indus…

Hi Folks, New to the forum and have a few questions for those in the know if I may? Other than the width and colour of the liner, what is the difference between the two Clearshield products in terms of installation please? One reason for asking is that the marketing of the pro product says that its no longer necessary to use steam, which by implication it is with the standard product. We did some tests here in Wales and steam seemed to somehow make the product more supple than a heat gun when working on edges and fingers. What's wrong with using steam? Regards Chris

Avery Dennison Nano Fusion Film question
by Guest stevenleung0000- 6 replies

I am planning to have a paint protection film installed on my car. And the shop owner who did my window tint recommends this nano fusion film. I have a few questions about this film though... 1. Will the paint under the film fade differently compare to other surface that does not have the film covered? 2. Do I have to hand wash the car 100% of the time? I live in a condo, so I don't have a garage and driveway to hand wash my car... I can go to those coin-op car wash bay in the summer, but it is just impossible to hand wash in the winter.... So is it ok to use those touchless automatic carwash? thanks in advance!

The past couple of months, We have sold a couple bulk rolls that turned out were paid with stolen credit cards. Every time it was a different name and address. But I suspect it was a single individual. The paypal payments would clear, so the films were shipped. After a week or two. Paypal would then refund the money back due to an "unauthorized transaction". I would then have to call paypal up and show them the tracking. Luckily we use signature confirmations, so paypal would cover the cost and refund the money back to us. Today, we get this email...... "Hello!) We are those people who had ordered film and whose orders were recogniz…
