New To Business In Canada
by Guest Shaemus- 8 replies

Good Day Everyone! As you might already know I am new to this business and new to this forum as well. I have been researching this industry for the past year or so to see if I could switch from my current business of Pressure Washing to this. After careful consideration I have come to the conclusion that this would be best. Is there any on here that feel like sharing some industry knowledge and experience with me to get things started. Right now I am in the process of meeting with the reps of 2 different suppliers. One is Madico and one is Bekaert. Does anyone have the straight skinny on which to go with to start, or are none of these a good option? I feel lik…

Hi I'm not professional, but customer . I've got my new Mazda3 tinted yesterday and I feel a little bit paranoid about what has been done to her, because it's just 2 weeks old car and tint work looks dodgy to me. My previous car didn't have tint. So I'm here in seeking of your professional advice and recommendations, before I put my formal complain. First film, Kolon film was installed instead of johnson, which I was told over phone as fully metallised. Tint looks not too bad on my taste and I can leve with it, but is this film 100% metallised or not and how it's in comparison with johnson films in general. Second is the work, here I'm frustrated. 1. Both front w…

Im using Suntek Carbon for the rear screen of certain cars(radio reasons). For the last few months its been really curly and wanting to fall off my peel board (corners first). This happens when the backing sheet is removed. I find myself juggling the film and my bottle before I've even picked it up! Once inside the vehicle its corners are rolling up and its a real I have tried different heat settings on my heat gun, holding the gun further away, using low fan speed (dry shrinking) and all sorts of ways to try and combat this, anyone got any bright ideas other than the obvious 'use another brand of tint'.............

Top Tip from Wales...The Bin technique!
by Guest walestint- 1 reply
A method for remaining relaxed and focused during a tint application on a car is I find....... Place the bin at least 6 feet away from you and after every trim do not drop film on floor in a rush etc simply walk over the the bin and place each scrap of tint in the said bin. This allows you to not rush the job, it also allows you to plan your next cut and even have the chance to have a swig of tea or coffee on the way.... hope this helps!!

Decided on tint, any thoughts? 1 2 3
by Guest bltoe21- 25 replies

Hello all, First, this site has been extremely helpful in my search for the right tint...lotsa info in the archives. I am having my car tinted tomorrow and wanted to run my idea by yall, especially Blade and the other Solar Gard installers. The car is a 97 bmw 528i, color is silver with a slight blue tint, and I am as of now going with Solar Gard HP True Grey: 38% front, 28% sides, and 18% rear window. This is legal in my state (FL). From my reading I believe the transition from front to side to rear will not be very noticeable since there is only a 10% difference. From your experience is this true? I like the even darkness look and do not want too much of a contrast fr…

Putting together tint percentages? 1 2
by Guest reject_racing- 14 replies

Say when you are double layering, or adding the tint to the stock percentage, how exactly do you get the percentage of two layers put together? I've heard that you multiply the two percentages together, but how do you do that? How about the two percentages plus the stock percentage? Math anyone?

Sometimes it works, sometimes not. You know what I mean? That little orange box with the white triangle that's suppose to take you to the last post I read. It will normally take me to the last page that I've seen on a multiple page thread, but not to the last post. It is just a PITA to scroll through what I've seen, not a hot issue here.

Vista VS61 1 2
by Guest FilmBlazer- 18 replies

Hey everyone, I just sold my first VS61 job this afternoon, but I have one major concern. The application in question is a storefront display. The entire job runs about 450 sq. feet on the glass and I am slightly concerned about the exterior reflectance of this particular film. VS60 is out of the question b/c of cost and I would like some input from someone that has some exerience with this film. I believe the exterior reflectance is 20% for VS61 for single pane glass. The film allows for a very high amount of light transmission, which I am hoping, will help to reduce the exterior reflectance. The 450 sq. foot application consists of just two vestibules with windows 10 …

While trying to get home last night, I broke off my car key in the driver's door. I extracted the broken part out with no problems, and I do not have a spare key for this one. Any suggestions, logical suggestions? I could tell the lock cylinder was getting a little tighter lately, but ignored it. I have always said... I work on cars all day, the last thing I want to do is work on my own. The key is old and was getting weak too. I was just about to take it and try unlocking it through the trunk, thought about one more try, and snap. This sucks.

air quality in my shop? 1 2
by Guest afterhours- 14 replies

I have been in my new location about 3 months now and I have more "re-do's" than I have ever had. now matter how much cleaning and precaution I take there is an obserd amount of contamination for what I am accustomed to doing. now in my other location I rarely ever had to re tint a window unless there was a light gap, corner peeling, etc....... I am blaming all the contamination on a Steele Mill that is about 3 blocks away. could this be the problem??? I h@te to give up the spot b/c it is a prime location and the rent is cheap, I alos feed off of the car accesory shop next door. is there a solution to the air problem or do I need to move?

by Guest mastertinter- 17 replies

So in walks this customer and asks how much to tint his car, then he follows with I got my own tint come and see what I want. So out I go, he pops the trunk and suprise hes got a pile of those little boxes from walmart, good old Gila film, and the stuff with the screen printed flames no less, real custom stuff. He says he wants the whole car done with the fancy flames and points to the picture on the box you know the one with the sweet little sports car all pimped out and the flawless tint job, like these kids buying this stuff will ever get anything close with this product. So I tell him to return the gila film and I can do the car for so much with real tint, hes shock…

Hi all I am new to the forum, I have been doing some research on window films and found your great sight. Thought I would stop in and ask you knowledgeable fellows a few questions. I just recently purchased a new to me house. It has heat mirror windows on the southern wall. One window gets condensation in it once in a wile. These are or were argon filled. Local window people say it can't be fixed. Then they state they are very expensive. I say why not fix. I have argon and I am sure good glue/silicone would fix the leak. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I will be constructing a greenhouse shortly. I have a large pile of slider windows. I am thinking of removing …
