Military and Tinting

Greetings everyone, Stumbled upon this forum and site while doing research on tinting. I would have put this in an existing thread but didn't see one that matched enough in context. Though as I searched through and was looking at the laws I realized that I haven't seen anything that says what determines the applicability of state tint laws. I'm active duty military and stationed in California at the moment, I have a California driver's license but my car is registered in Virginia (I was lazy and CA wanted way to much to change it). I'm planning on having my car tinted here in CA but am not sure who's law to follow, CA says no tint at all on the front side windows and…

Glass manufacturer tagging dark windows "For Off-Road Use Only&qu
by Guest CUSTOMAUTOGLASS- 4 replies

A little background on my company... We manufacture aftermarket tempered windows for most all makes and models in factory colors and darkness. We also manufacture windows for all types of custom cars including chop-tops, hot rods, limousines, prototypes, etc... So we can make ALL types of bent tempered windows out of ALL types of glass... Question... I know the laws do not permit dark tint on the front windows of all vehicles or on any window of passenger vehicles on public highways, but what prevents me from selling the windows with a sticker (or permanent etched logo) on the window stating "For Off-Road Use ONLY" just like all the other aftermarket manufactures of …

I'll start by saying that those of you who install auto film within the State Of New York are not going to be happy with this post. A few months back, I was contacted by a nice young fellow who received a summons for illegal window film. He never purchased anything from EWF and was just looking for information and clarification. I told him to come in to see me and that I would be happy to chat with him about window film and the law. The law in NYS has always struck a raw nerve in me. NY has one of the most poorly written, unfair and bone-headed window film laws in the USA. I took on this young man's cause and told him I would help him fight his ticket. I hired a te…

Got a call very late yesterday from Joe at Johnson Window Films. He said to call him back because "there is legislation pending in Washington that will impact the window film industry." Anyone know anything about this?? I haven't called him back yet as they are 3 hours behind us on the eastern time zone, but if this is on cars we could all be in deep trouble.

I am moving to Guadalajara for a few years and I want to tint all my windows except the windshield with 15%. I'm pretty sure that they don't enforce the laws too strictly, what ever they are, because every time I've been there a lot of cars have 5% on all there windows. Does any one know the tint laws for jalisco?

Traveling the Deep Southern States
by Guest ronbond1955- 5 replies

Next month I will need to travel from Colorado/New Mexico to Florida. I know Georgia and Tennessee apply their tint law to non-resident cars. The states I will go through will be TX, LA, MS, AL, GA, FL and TN. My vehicle is a passenger car with 5% tint on the rear and rear side windows. The front side windows are 15% and I have a tint strip on the windshield that comes down 10 inches and is 5% VLT. Now the questions: 1. On TN and GA, how much problems would I expect. Their law applies to out of state vehicles but in everyday practice, do they hassle out of state people for dark tint or usually look the other way ? 2. How is Florida since they are known for dark tinting…

Sorry to bother you guys. I just have one question I hope you can answer. I’m going to Miami for 6 months and I will be taking my car from Mexico. I know that Florida’s tint law is 28% front sides and 15% rear windows. Will I have any problems with cops if I go with 20% in every window (except windshield)?? Or even though my car is not from USA should I stick to 35% front and 20% rear?? It will be a road trip from Mexico to Florida, should I consider the tint laws of the states I will be going through the 3 day trip???? Thank you

Tint vs vehicle wraps

In some states there is a percentage that of course makes a window illegal....but with the new vehicle wraps, you can't see in the windows at all? Why is this not illegal?

I happen to do some work for the guy who trains all the Maryland State Troopers how to drive/not drive their cars. I asked him about the legality of window film on vehicles with historic tags and he didnt know off the top of his head. So he looks into it and calls me a week later, and says that window tinting is not part of the safety inspection, therefore legally you can go as dark as you want. There was no real clear answer in the handbook, so he called around to some higher ups, and thats what they said so....if you're historic / your safe! :inot

CHP Tint ticket mailed to me. 1 2

Hi all, recently was pulled for moving violation. Signed the citation for the speeding given to me by chp officer. Was let go after signing, without anything else mentioned. Day after I get a tint ticket in the mail and a courtesy notice without my signature from same officer that pulled me for speeding. I was told this will not hold in court, without the defendants signature on the ticket. And without the cop mentioning anything regarding the tints or measuring it. What do you all think? Thanks!

Florida law question 1 2
by Guest pimpedout97x- 10 replies

few questions. Ive seen before that in some states, window tint isn't a first offense, meaning they cant stop you and write you a citation JUST for tint. they would have to stop you for a first offense (speeding, no seatbelt, whatever the case may be) then cite you for your tint as an additional ticket. does anyone know for sure 100% if its a first offense in Florida or if it isn't? next question- ive heard of some people getting from eye doctors, scripts for tint if sun hurts their eyes, or on coming headlights, etc. and ive heard of it working when they get pulled over as well. whats the deal on this? im prally just used to my tint, its been as dark as it is for a…

I went to get my car tinted yesterday. The guy showed me a few cars that he had done work on and it looked really nice. I chose the level of the tint based on the other cars and how dark I wanted it. He told me that limo was !llegal which I already knew and didn't want anyway. He said the next level I could go would be 20% and that it was totally legal. I chose to do 20% all around. They were almost done with my car and another customer started talking to him about the tint laws and such and he said that he knew that the 20% was legal because a cop came in looking to get 20% as well and told him that it was legal so he assumed that since he heard it from a cop that it mus…

The govenor of Mississippi will be signing the bill to change the newly amended law back to its original form on Monday March 28th. This should bring back the lost business due to the 35% net scare throughout the state. Many thanks to the shop owner from McCombs, MS for his tireless effort to get the law changed back to normal. It was a long process but for once the public prevails.

I had another guy try to argue with me (which I avoid arguing with customers if at all possible.) I was about to put the legal 35% on the sides of his A6 when he barges into my shop area and tells me that he just got off the phone with his friend (who is an inspector) and his friend said that 20% is legal on the sides. So I pulled up the VLT laws and tried to explain to him how it all works and why 35% will keep him right above the law and how the law is different on the rear doors then what state inspectors are required to check. The whole time I could tell he was thinking I was just blowing smoke up his arse. After wasting a good thirty minutes of valuable tint time I …

WHat % FILM to achieve 35% NET? 1 2 3
by Guest Mustang5L5- 27 replies
Hello all. I recently had my '06 Infiniti G35x tinted with 35% film thinking it would remain legal. However, I've come to realize that the law in MA is 35% NET and with the factory tint this would give me 28-30% VLT. I'm getting too old to be hassled by cops so this is not desirable to me. I want to strip the tint off and go with a tint that will be above 35% NET. I've been reading up and it seems that 45% tint would NET ~37% on the meter? Basically how dark a film can I go and remain about 35% NET. I just want to drive my car and not worry about having anything !llegal on it

TintJunkie asked me to post this... As of March 23, 2009, it was brought to our attention that the Texas Senate passed a bill (S B 589) that in effect would limit tinting the side windows of vehicles from a total of 25% visible light transmission to 35%. A bill has been authored by Larry Phillips in the House of Representatives H. B. 4523 that would do the same thing. What this means to the end consumer (you and I) is that no longer will it be allowed to apply a 35% VLT film on the side windows of your vehicles. It would have to change to a 50% VLT film to meet the new requirements. The current law states that after the film is applied it can not read below 25…

He pointed at her when he was working a construction zone, she received a ticket in the mail a few days later... he has given her 6 tickets the last 2 years. he stopped her everytime tho. tint isnt even dark. 35% So is it legal for him to mail a ticket without even stopping her?
