Hey all, Just wondering what's the darkest film you guys would install on your own personal cars if there were no restrictions on window tint. Personally, I'd probably stick with 35%, anything darker I'd start worrying about seeing the deer that populate the rural roads of Pennsylvania. Also, if the law permitted, how many of you would be tinting your windsheilds? :gay A friend of mine took me for a ride in his new Ford Ranger X-cab the other day. This kid self-installed 5% on the front D&P, put 5% over the factory dark glass on the rear window and the small side windows, and did an "eyebrow" across the top of the windshield that must have been 15"! At night, he…

I have a Scion Tc to tint tommorow morning but I live in Va and the people I am tinting the car for are moving from va to N. carolina and I was wondering if 35% all around was film or Net. And just taking a vote it prolly would be smarter for them to get it for n. car because they only have 4 months left here.

Two guys (purportedly GBI) came in Saturday. They wanted to know my policies on illegal Tint. They flashed the ID's so quick I really didn't get a chance to see them. Even tho I requested to see the ID's again, they just ignored my requests, and continued to ask me questions, specifically about 5% on cars. I told them that I would not do that, of course. They THEN wanted to see my records and inspect my inventory. My gut reaction was to send 'em packing until they had a warrant, but prudence won and I showed them my inventory. Thankfully, I do not stock 5%, and there wasn't an empty box or an inch of it anywhere. I explained that I special order 5% for trucks, vans and SU…

Found this article below on the internet and then the details below that from the department of transport website. I am trying to get hold of the report, but as it says in black and white "Tinting - Based on the detection of potential roadway hazards under various lighting conditions, the minimum level of light transmittance could be reduced to between 33.4% and 47%. The Glass & Glazing Federation (GGF) has applauded the recent effort by a number of police authorities to prevent motorists from driving vehicles with excessively dark tinted windows. In a statement issued today, Mr. Peter Mukherjee, Chairman of the GGF?s Automotive Window Tinting Working Group stated:…

I have come to discover that the term mpv is just a whole lot of bs. we need united national tint laws. I feel that there is nothing wrong with 20% on the d/p windows and any % on the backs. mpv is discrimination at its finest. WHO'S WITH ME?

factory tinted 1 2 3
by Ryker- 21 replies

I was just thinking Saturday and I ponder why is it that there are no factory tinted cars except for the Dodge Magnum? Why is it that they can have it but not others? I am not complaining about it as the more that were factory tinted would be less for most of us....but I just wonder why. Also, are there factory tinted PT Cruisers? or any other "cars" out there? Anyone?

Ontario tint laws? 1 2
by Guest tdidarryl- 18 replies

I live in Ontario and am planning on tinting my windows in the near future. I understand that 35% is the max (legal) for the front but where does it say this? The OHTA (link below) only says that: "No person shall drive a motor vehicle upon a highway where the surface of the windshield or of any window of the vehicle has been coated with any colour spray or other colour coating in such a manner as to obstruct the driver's view of the highway or any intersecting highway." That seems open to interpretation! I commute on highway 400, has anyone had any experience with the OPP and dark tint? My car has black leather seats and I'm tired of burning my a$$ after work eac…

a change for the better in DK
by Guest dan-mark- 0 replies
- 1.1k views
danish law changed, last year I think. for the better this time. in dk you have two sets of number plates white and yellow. the white are for normal cars (ie for families- personal cars and yellow for work vehicles. its to do with how much road tax you pay. its cheaper to have yellow plates as there are just two seats. normal cars can have their back seats removed so they get yellow plates and pay cheaper tax too. its sounds weird I know... but normal family cars werent allowed the darkest tint but that changed for the better of the tinters here, so now they can have the darkest tint on every vehicle. still nothing on the fronts... honest sir, honest

Prob'ly never happen, but I wonder........
by Guest Key West- 1 reply

I wonder what would happen if EVERY tint shop in america put a petition in their shops worded in some way to reflect the publics displeasure RE: tint laws. We ALL know that almost everyone wants darker tint, so I believe that most people would sign it. Then at the end of the year, those petitions were sent to the respective State Representatives , Then start over the next year. I would think that that would represent a sizeable voting bloc. I doubt seriously that that would ever happen, tho 'cuz sadly, this industry is too divided to organize. Pity because the IWFA is doing nothing for us. It would be VERY cool if we could all put aside our petty differences and unite …

Michigan Tint Laws...
by Guest InnovativeTint- 0 replies

Here's a link to Michigan's Tint Laws...Michigan Tint Laws Anything behind the driver's head can be as dark as you'd like, the front 2 windows you can only have the top 4 inches tinted at 35% VLT, and the same for the windshield, top 4 inches at 35% VLT. ANY colored or "reflective" film have been deemed "Illegal" to have, ANYWHERE on the vehicle... I personally think these laws suck because many people are afraid to tint their front windows... Although, it is NOT illegal for me to tint the windows, it is only illegal for the vehicle to be on the road with them tinted. I have read that in many states the installer can be held responsible, and that is not true here.…

How do you guys handle tinting vehicles from another state with diffrent laws? Ex; military customers, vehicle is registered in another state, but they are stationed else where. Do you tint it for where the vehicle is registered, or for your state?

I know you guys know I have something else up my sleeve, so here it is. If you live in a state that has lax tint laws, but border a state with tougher laws, whats to stop us from tinting them to our state law? Why do we have to follow each states laws? Isnt this up to the customer? In this state, until recently, tatoos were illegal, but we could go to a border state and get one. The tatoo parlor doesnt care what the law is else where, only that they are following there own laws. Seems to me that if a customer wants to travel to another state to have there stuff done to a level that is not legal in there state, its there responsibility, right.

Georgia laws... 1 2

So, when I was tinting regularly, the tinting laws were Cars: 32% all around Trucks, SUV's and Van's: 32% on the two front roll-ups and as dark as you want on the back. I read that the law changed sometime in 2005 and then was changed again after that. It looks as if it has now changed to 32% all the way around on all vehicles including trucks, suv's and van's (excluding windshield of course)? Is this true?

Police tightening down on tint laws around here
by Guest str0ngh01d- 9 replies

It was in last week's paper, the police are gonna start strongly enforcing the tint laws around here (Marlboro County, SC.) They say dark tint is associated with dr*g activity and violence. All tinted windows need to have the sticker in the lower right corner with the tint %, date done, and who tinted. Back when I was in high school, the windows on my s10 were 2.5%. Then I wrecked it. Tint in SC can only be 27%. I've never had less than 20%.

NJ Tint Laws?
by Guest NJdriver21- 8 replies

I joined in hopes to find some helpful resources about tint laws in New Jersey. I've done the typical "google search" and have seen all the sites that say NO/NO/ANY/ANY 198x. But I'm looking to find this on an official state website or something like a MVC site. I've tried searching the New Jersey Legislature site as well as the MVC site but can't find exactly what I need. I was recently issued a ticket for having my backwindow tinted, claiming it's illegal, and I feel it's complete BS. Any help with current tint laws in New Jersey or official sites that provide information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This oughta get real interesting real quick. You can pick only one answer and I want to see why you think it. Here's the question (I'll post my answer a little later): Are tint laws more for the po-lice officer pullin you over, or for your protection so you can see?

I am set up to do a 2006 e class mercedes and Ive tinted for a few years and gotten pretty good at it but I always try and research a project before I start it and I have heard you can not heat shrink any mercedes cars because of them being laminated. I just want to know what to expect and if it will be a B%$@& to do. Is there a different way to contour the tint to the glass.? And I also wanted to ask about the tint law issues. If the customer signs a waiver does that take me away from being held responsible for any tint issues? Im a newbie to posting but Ive watched the forums for a couple years.........VERY helpful

Here is an article brought to me by a neighbor of our shop. He found it in our main local newspaper this morning. The laws here are nothing new to me, but I did find it interesting that they can ticket you for each individual window that's done darker than legal. And, they did not mention anything about the installers being implicated for !llegal tint on autos. Milwaukee Journal/Sentinal Article

Call for campaign to reduce road rage By Nassim Khadem April 21, 2005 Page Tools A parliamentary committee investigating road rage has recommended a public education campaign to change driver attitudes and the establishment of a victims' hotline. The state Dr*gs and Crime Prevention Committee yesterday released its final report on the prevalence, cost and impact of road violence, commonly referred to as "road rage". The committee made 69 recommendations on how to curb the problem. Tens of thousands of Victorians were involved in road-rage incidents annually, the committee found. Based on Victoria Police data gathered since July 2000, young men were most likely to c…

a question to all tinters who are restricted by 70% min LT laws what are the consequences of tinting say for instance with 50% vlt film in your area? have any of you been either procecuted or threatened with it for doing so? the reason I ask is here in the UK legislation was finally changed and clarified here last year which states no darker than 70% vlt on front drivers and passenger door glass, I presume similar to certain states there. as this has now been in force since jan 2004 and as yet it seems no one has been procecuted here from the installation end, if there are cases over there which have occurred. I personally heard from a customer yesterday who had been…

The president of the Pennsylvania Fraternial Order of Police responded to my letter referenced in This Thread. <-Click me But I started a new topic about it because I wanted a more exciting subject line.... Text of the letter: Dear Ms. Snyder: Thank you for your recent e-mail concerning HB 2257 and for taking the time to provide me with your views on the subject of vehicle window tinting. As stated, vehicle window tinting is a very important issue to Law Enforcement and I must at all time put officer safety first. However, should there be a way in which your concerns and officer safety be met at the same time, we may be able to agree on the same piece of Legis…
