Three months ago I got a new car and went to get the windshield and both front side windows tinted at a place a did not use before and it was my first windshield tint. After about a month I came back to the tinter because there were many film defects, some look like smudges, some like streaks. The tinter agreed and said they changes film suppliers to Xpel so now it shouldn't be an issue, they redo the job and it was pretty much perfect so I decided to get my other car's windshield tinted as well. When they gave my the car back there were tons of water marks so hard to tell how it came out, now it's been few weeks and there is what I would call plenty of dust spec bubbles …

Hey everyone, I am not sure if this is the spot to post this, but I have a question to regards of how dark to tint my car. I have a 2014 Ford Taurus with tan interior. With this being said, I was going to go with 20%, but I am afraid that you’ll be able to see right through it with my bright colored interior. Would I be better off going with 15%? 5 is too dark, and I don’t want to get pulled over for it. Thanks in advance.

I do like there films and have been having great luck with it the last year! now question: what do most installers prefer for brands, and some windows I have dirt issues. Any cleaning recommendations and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

I recently become a Llumar dealer. I was questioning on how to stock my shop? what size rolls should I buy and what percentage? i was thinking 5% 30% and 50% and a 40x100 roll of each, but that’s so pricy. Do I even need all that? Thanks in advance.

I've been tinting daily as a job for just coming on 35 years. Our shops have been in business since 1970. Oldest tint shop in Florida, maybe in the country, not sure. We are dealer for Solargard, Panorama as well, Huper Optik, Rayno, Solyx to list the mains. We also do a lot of installs for other vendors which would include 3M films. I've installed and sold through my personal shop up north Sun-Gard. We have been a Rayno dealer for 5+ years. We carried MonoCarbon, S5, S7, S9 and Platinum. When we took it on, we called other dealers to get input, good and bad. You got to keep in mind we are in Southwest Florida so temperatures and humidity are very high which …

so I got my 2015 silverado tinted this afternoon and finished around 1:30. They applied FormulaOne Ceramic tint to the front two windows. After telling my sister I got them done this afternoon on the way to dinner , the first thing she does on the way home (around 7:30) is roll down the passenger window. 🤬 The driver side seems spotless, no streaking/bubbles. The passenger side looks pretty fucked but I could be over exaggerating bc I’m pissed off. It appears to have vertical barcode streaks like 3/4 of the way up the window all the way across, and there are several bubbles as well. Considering the driver side is spotless, I’m pretty sure those bubbles were not there bef…

This is primarily aimed at tint business owners who previously worked for another shop or someone else's business. However, I'm also interested to hear from people who left another job to tint, or went from tinting part time to full time, etc. Just curious what was the catalyst that made you branch off on your own?

Hey all, I was browsing through this forum looking for solutions to my slip problems and found that people use ice to keep their slip cool to reduce tack which is currently my issue. Has anyone tried using ice bricks instead of ice? It just seems a bit more convenient for me but I was wondering if it would hold well in a pressurized keg.

So, it looks like some trim levels of the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer went back to a bronze semi-reflective glass in the rear. (Circa 1989) Does anyone know of any tint out there that would look better than putting a regular charcoal film on there? It's 27% in the back so a 30% or 35% even would be desired. All I can think of is the old Lulu ATR bronze but I only have 50% left from those days. Any help would be appreciated and then this post should probably be moved to makes and models. Thanks and heads up to everyone when you quote this one over the phone.

Firstly thanks for letting me in, I'm after opinions before I see a tinter tomorrow. He tinted my car in 2019 and only just found out that he cut my window seals to hide the edge of the film easier. He's claiming its standard practice for some cars even on brand new range rovers! I've only discovered it now as went to try and sort out my rear electric windows as they kept jamming and wouldn't even close fully. Car in question is a 2006 Audi A6 avant. I simply can't accept that damaging the car is standard practice. What are your thoughts /methods?

I apprenticed at a very nice 3M tint shop for about 8 months, but it was about 10 years ago. I've tinted a handful of cars, but no door panel removals and no super difficult rear windows just yet. I think it was more about me not having the opportunity & them not wanting to waste film while I learned on the job. Anyways--here we are in 2020. I am looking to keep my day job, but want to set up a side business in my garage for friends/family/neighbors as a learning experience and way to make a few extra bucks. As I get my confidence, skills, and hopefully some funds together--maybe it will progress into something more. With all of this in mind, can yo…

Hey guys, I'm not very knowledgable so please bear with me here as I'll try to explain this is best as I possibly can. Long story short, I bought a brand new vehicle 4 days ago with 0 miles and decided to get tints for my windows. I took it to a tint shop (they used Johnson Windows hybrid tint I believe). The tint job was done well, but I noticed these weird dot/marks on my leather. I'll attach pictures below. They are located on the left rear door arm rest, right under the windows. It looks like holes in the picture, but I can assure that it's not holes. It almost looks like permanent marker marks, but I know that can't be it. I'm trying to figure out if this was on the …

Afternoon, I get asked this question so much, "Do you have a film that provides privacy during the night?" I always turn to a translucent-style film such as frost when this comes up. I have yet to figure out another solution other than blinds or curtains. A quote I am giving next week is asking for this same thing. However, they say they have bright lawn lights that can shine onto the windows if need be. Has anyone had success with this before?

Hi! Its my first time getting my windows tinted and I noticed there was a gap at the top edge of the windows. I was wondering if that was normal practice in tinting? I have read through some forums and it’s still unclear. Are you able to provide some opinions as to whether this was done appropriately. I also noticed there were some uneven edges in addition the the gap. The job cost $360 and was done less than a week ago. Thank you!!

I have been using stainless steel olfa blades since I started tinting and i gotta say I do not reccomend it unless you cut directly on the vehicle or are using the blade to clean. I just recently got a plotter, but when I use the handcut I used the tracing method and cut on a glass board for BG as well. I would be constantly snapping blades to the point where it was unproductive to keep using stainless steel blades. Now that I have a plotter I will be using carbon blades to weed patterns with less headache of dull blades. Also, I heard on tintdude that tightly gripping dull blades to cut, is bad for your joints. Merry Christmas

I noticed that my 2018 Camry (brand new when I bought it from the dealership) tint film was coming away in the lower left corner on my rear window. I called the dealership and made an appointment. I got my oil changed as well as it was under warranty and due. I was given a loaner. During the day the service person called me and stated that they were having a problem getting the tint off and they needed another day. He mentioned that it may impact the rear defogger. Not knowing what he meant, I just said ok. When I got my car back, I noticed when I tried to use the rear defogger, that it wasn't clearing the dew on the back window as it usually did. I tried two more…

Often times when I mention my prices to friends or potential customers for entry level or mid grade film (deep dyed) they will say there's a guy a city over who has charged them $50 less for ceramic. And its true, places are claiming they sell ceramic for 160 CAD (130Usd) to 180 CAD (145USD). My question is, what do I tell these customers? I think the cheap shops may not be using ceramic tint, low quality ceramic tint, or they are using a strategy of pumping out as much jobs as possible by offering below market prices. Ceramic is usually $300USD to $400USD in my area.

Hello fellow tinters! I'm curious to see if anyone has tried any of the films on the tintdepot website. They have a wide selection of films. Before going into business(side work) for myself I tinted with a shop that dealt LLumar and Formula 1. So if I use a film I want something of good quality. I'd lean toward the films with lifetime warranties on the site. If i buy from another company it'd likely be global, xpel, avery, flex, Rayno.... insert other affordable good product haha Thanks for any posts
